It has been reported with some stubborn first time syncs that the cause is accidentally in airplane mode (you can see orange on the side switch) or pairing had failed because it was forced. iPhone plays nicer with that first connect if you go to bluetooth, turn it on, click "forget this device" for your tracking in the device list. go back to home screen, delete the fitbit app, and step through "new device install" from the safari browser at fitbit.com/setup letting the app find the tracker. After your Alta and iPhone are communicating on a stats level then you can start turning on other alert features.
