App asks to categorize already-categorized exercise

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have a Fitbit Surge, which lets me categorize exercises when I start them. Since the most recent iOS update, the app does not seem to recognize this categorization. For example, I've gone hiking several times, picking the "hike" activity on the Surge, and in the app, it keeps asking me to categorize the activity. (It also doesn't let me actually pick a category, which is further annoying, but really, I picked the category when I started!)

To be more precise:

When I go to the "Activities" tab that shows all recent exercises, the exercise is properly labeled ("Workout", "Walk", "Hike") but when I go into the exercise detail, it has the "Categorize Exercise" at the top of the screen and nothing I do will make that go away.

Has anyone else seen this? Is this a known issue?

Hello @steverod, I hope you're having a great day, it's nice to see you around! Smiley Happy

With the newest app update, the ability to edit your auto-recognized exercises was implemented. This was a feature requested by many people, which is why you're able to see the "Categorize Exercise" option on each activity.

Do not worry, you don't need to categorize your activity when using the Exercise function on your Surge. The ability to edit activities is mostly useful for people who unlike you don't have a tracker with the Exercise function built in. Currently, it's not possible to remove this option, but I appreciate your feedback and make sure to pass it along to our team.

I hope this resolves your inquiry, if there's anything else I can do for you, please keep me posted. Smiley Wink

 Thank you!

First, I'll point out that these are not auto-recognized exercises; I explicitly selected them on my Surge. So that's annoying.  If this option could be moved into the "settings" for the exercise, that would be ideal. It would also be nice if, once I set it, it went away. But it doesn't.

Second, the real reason I find these annoying is that I often share the map of my adventures (hiking in particular) and having this included on the screenshot is annoying.  An obvious workaround is to allow us to share adventure maps :-), but since Fitbit  has not yet allowed us to do that, I do the next best alternative.

I understand how this new feature implemented in auto-recognized activities and activities selected directly from the tracker, might not be ideal for you. I really appreciate your feedback and I would like to encourage you to submit it as a suggested idea, where members of the Community can vote for it and add their comments, this is truly the best way to make your voice heard and get the attention from our development team.

I hope this can be helpful, feel free to reply in case you need anything else! Smiley Wink
