What's important to note is that the Fitbit App use the email addresses in your contacts to help find friends, not phone numbers. If any of your friends' emails are associated with a Fitbit account, they should appear in the App. Click here for more details.

@DerrickS You should add this info in the article https://help.fitbit.com/articles/en_US/Help_article/How-do-I-connect-with-friends-on-Fitbit. I turned there first, before finding the answer here in the community.
