App is very slow when logging food

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Recently the app has intermittently been very slow and laggy when I'm logging a food item.  When the three-tabbed view for frequent/recent/custom foods appears, it's frozen for a while and won't scroll, then when it does and you select an item there is a delay before the item appears, and so on -- every interaction with the app is sticky and slow.

I only see one other report of this recently in the Android forum.  Is anyone else having trouble?

For what it's worth, I have not been seeing this particular problem for some time now (nor have I cleared app cache or data).  I'm up to version 2.68 (2193263).

My phone is only about 6 months old; a Moto G5 Plus running Android 7.0. Virtually all other apps, including the majority of the FitBit functions, run quickly and smoothly with the exception of the food log.

Surely if it was simply due to the make, model and age of the phone then the entire app would be affected.  I agree with DeptOfDefence's comment that it could be caused by a bloated database with multiple entries of the same food item.

My note 8 is listed as compatible. And the rest of the app (notifications included) works perfectly. It's just this lag in food logging.

FYI I have moved over to the Android-specific topic/thread that Marco referenced for this issue, since I have an Android device. I apologize for "cluttering" up this iOS thread with my issue. I'll stay out of this one now and just stick with the Android topic since it is most appropriate to my device. I will try the suggestions by Roberto the next time I am having issues. But I did check, and my device is supported and the app is on internal storage. Marco, thanks for staying with us in this topic despite most of us being Android users. I suggest to the Android users to switch and stay with the other, Android-specific topic.

Fitbit 2.49 on Apple iPhone 8. Food app is frustrating me. It will never work if the app is syncing either. Sometimes the app has to sync 3 or 4 times before I can log food.

@MarcoGFitbit
I'm also seeing this issue. seems to be getting slower the more days I enter food. at this point I am often waiting close to a minute if not more to operate entering food.

Also very annoying is that the search screen and food portion details screen refresh after  long period clearing any data entered in the search bare or food portions.

On the food portion screen, maybe related to switching, time of meal.

I've had lots of problems with the fitbit system, so far the usability of the food tracking has been the worst.

Keep track of my calories has been a great help in fat burning, but if this gets too annoying I might have to switch to another tracker, simply from how much I want to continue tracking my food.

@MarcoGFitbit I'm on android 7.1.2.

If I clear app cache it's fast for a while.

The refresh issue is still there.

UPDATE:

@MarcoGFitbit

Here are examples how terrible the experience is, want to log a meal? Got an hour?

Worked well for a while, but after using it for a few weeks the food logging became slow.

I've started using the fitbit web site (not mobile friendly btw) to log food.
Same functionality, works much faster ( and it runs in a browser, LOL)

UPDATE 2:

So, I've definitely noticed the performance decrease is more significant at the end of the day.  Leads me to believe that it has to do with the data logger over the course of the day.

UPDATE 3:

I've been considering, buy a scale, but I won't if this continues being so hard to log food, since I might have to switch platforms for a better experience.

I see this issue has been popping up for years.

UPDATE 4:

I found a solution for this, Use cronometer, it integrates with your fitbit accout, you will see you calories in both apps. Cronometer's developers seem much more competent at performance, and screen state when it comes to data entry. Most of the fitbit app works well, but food logging seems really hacked together.

Fitbit please don't buy them as discontinue the product like you did with pebble.

@Adrie seems this issue has been around for years, Give up on the fitbit food log, Use Cronometer.
Calories you add there will show up in fitbit.

I’m also having the same issue with some foods despite rebooting and with strong wifi. I increasingly just give up or else create a custom food with estimated calories.

My Fitbit version is 3.8 (882) running on an iPhone 6 on iOS 12.4.2.

I’ve had this for a couple of weeks now on my iPad fitbit app.  Very frustrating. It won’t let me add a Custom food. I can only add something In the Recent bit. Also the water has a lag to it and adds it incorrectly. Before Fitbit reply and say the trouble shooting I have already done that. There is obviously a bug on the app.

I also have this problem. Adding foods that are not already recent or favourite is so slow, and sometimes they do not load all all. The Fitbit experience is getting worse and worse and this will soon be the nail in the coffin, since I will switch brands. The app is becoming unuseable!!
