App screen orientation on iPad...

On my iPad Air, the app screen will not orient itself to how I am holding the iPad but stays in "portrait" mode. Have I missed a setting or is this working as intended. The app is at the current version and all other app screens orient themselves to however I am holding the iPad. Thanks for any information...

Portrait mode is correct, you haven't missed a setting. The Fitbit App is an iPhone Application only, although it will run on the iPad, is not designed to rotate and will be in Portrait mode. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the information.  The fact that FB hasn't produced an auto-rotating app for the iPad is very upsetting.  It is not very useful to view this oversized screen that looses all contact with an external keyboard.  How do we make a constructive request to develop this feature in the app?

I doubt anyone will reply to this from Fitbit, but I must say, this is odd. I recentlty had my MacBook go down, and it is difficult to see this in portrait mode while trying to update my records on the iPad I'm using as my computer. A recent Apple commercial has a child working on an iPad. The adult asks the child, "What are you doing on your 'computer?". The child replies, "What is a computer?" The implication is that the iPad is a mature device, and some people use them as their computer. For FitBit to not have a mature iPad app is a pretty strong evidence that they don't support their own hardware. Pretty disappointing.

I agree with this, its weird having to hold the ipad sideways to use the app. I use my ipad in preference to my iphone, as the screen is larger, and I have an external keyboard/case. I am very surprised the the FitBit app doesn’t rotate.

Please think about changing this, as not everbody does everything via their phone, some people use their ipad as their primary communication device.

UPDATE:

On second thoughts, maybe there is another app that can be used with the Fitbit that can be rotated on the ipad.

Up until 3 nights ago my FITBIT app did rotate so do not understand why all of a sudden it does not.  I do not like portrait and want my landscape view back.  My point is it would rotate on my iPad and I have had a FITBIT since 2014/

Hello @MMayor, have a warm welcome to the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you on board. Smiley Happy

I appreciate your participation in the Forums and for having shared your experience with us. Please note that the Fitbit app for iPad has only supported Portrait mode since it was released. I understand your concern and that it will be better for you to have it on Landscape mode, which is why, as mentioned earlier, I would like to suggest you to vote and comment on @DavidMcAfee's suggested idea, the more demand a feature gets, the more it stands out for our development team to take it in consideration.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, If there's anything else you might want to add, please feel free to do so. Have a great day.

Portrait Mode only makes no sense when you want to review your data on the iPad.  Makes it very cumbersome,  A good App should be also designed to work the orientation feature properly

I think the point is that people buy a fairly expensive device. They expect it to run, and deliver data on multiple platforms. I might check my phone for calories and input food, and want the steps to register. At night I might be reviewing my day on my computer. But then I take a walk, eat a snack, and then get ready for bed, I might have my iPad there by the bed. But wait... No one has bothered to make my expensive hardware render correctly optimized for my iPad. Incomprehensible that the FitBit co. refuses to implement this.

Well my MacBook is pretty old and so is my iphone which I will be replacing but not with Apple products. My Fitbit is brand new and I'm going to return that too. I think this has to do with completion between the AppleWatch and Fitbit and neither wants to spend the extra $ to make their products compatible. So sorry, but it's ridiculous that I can't view Fitbit app in both layouts as both Apple and Fitbit have been around for a very long time.

Regarding Fitbit's app inability to appear in landscape mode on an iPad:

I sincerely question WHY it is incumbent on the customers/users to speak out in large numbers in order to gain the attention of the development team on this issue. One would think this is a no-brainer as far as needing correction.

It is most obviously a flaw in the app regarding this inability to transition from portrait mode to landscape mode on an iPad.

Isn't correcting an issue such as this precisely in the wheelhouse of Fitbit's development team, regardless of whether a large number of users vocalize their opinion to "gain the attention of the development team", as moderators are suggesting?

I understand this issue may take time to correct, but there are threads here in the community forums mentioning this problem since 2015. When can we expect a remedy?

I don’t know if I found a work around or it’s a freaky occurrence with my iPad but I just recycled the power on my iPad and the Fitbit app displays in landscape mode.  If you physically rotate the iPad screen, the Fitbit app returns to portrait mode so you have to recycle the power again to display the screen in landscape.

I’m seeing something similar too.

Occasionally, (and randomly), the app will open in landscape mode on my iPad.

The dashboard operates in landscape but as soon as I enter the “Log Food” screen, it locks back into portrait mode for the entire session—- even when I switch back to the dashboard.

Of course, the “Log Food” area is where the keyboard is primarily used, making it all the more wonky to have to deal with the portrait mode 🤷🏼‍:female_sign:😑

My iPad Fitbit app was in landscape this morning. When I synced to get my sleep analysis it went to portrait and it won’t rotate!   What happened?  Now I read in this forum that it doesn’t do landscape...I beg to differ.  Please update and fix this issue.

Note: I restarted my iPad and now it is back to landscape. Problem fixed.
