Benefit of Wearing Device?

I realised a while ago that if I go for a run without wearing my Fitbit device, I can still track my run on the Fitbit iOS app (assuming I bring my phone with me). I also heard that even if I wear my Fitbit, the device will take the location data provided by my phone anyway. My question therefore is that since I always take my phone on runs, what benefit or point is there in wearing my Fitbit device at the same time? (I’m not interested in monitoring my heart rate). Thanks.

Even if your run is the only thing you care about, wearing fitbit keeps record of it.

But do you also care about all-day calorie burn, sleep time and consistency, exercise other than runs, heat rate when you aren't running, trends in resting heart rate, a place to keep log of weight and lots of other data on phone app for reference for years to come, or do you just want to time your run?  Why not just use your wrist watch to time it?

Before posting, re-read to see if it would make sense to someone else not looking at your Fitbit or phone.

Well, there are several benefits:

  1. Alarms:
    1. Distance alarm - to alarm you when you reach certain distance, which on most phones you can't.
    2. Speed alarm - to alarm you when you over speed or need to speed up, which is not programmed in phones.
  2. Health notification:
    1. Heartbeat alarm - you can program Fitbit to alarm you if your heart rate goes in over-frequency. This might get you out of ER, something to consider.
    2. O2 monitor - to see if your O2 has gone too much down & alarm you to slow down.
  3. Easier navigation - if you put Fitbit on analog clock, you can orient within seconds. For orientation with a phone is several seconds away...

Hope it helps.
