Calories Burned disappearing after exercise entry

My new Versa 2 failed to pick up a 1 hour workout at peak heart rate. This disappointed me, but I went home & entered it manually. As soon as I did, my calories burned for the day reduced by over 100 and my steps for the day went down too. I went back in and deleted the workout, and they went back up to where they had been. What the actual frack?

I'm not necessarily recommending this as I've never tried it, but someone said there's a way to get around that, maybe that if you log an activity from fitbit.com dashboard , it overwrites the data, but if you log it from the phone app, then it doesn't;  or maybe it was vice versa.

When you manually log an activity, that overwrites any data actually recorded during that time.  Logging workout is designed only for times when tracker was not worn, and confuses data when used for time when tracker was worn, though I realize that can be a problem when workout was not auto-recognized.

Better not to rely on workout being auto-recognized but instead use the Exercise App to start and end the workout to be sure it is always recognized.

Okay, that makes sense but is an utter bummer. Steps & heart rate are what they are; the fact that they were expended during exercise does not change what was actually measured, so that right there is a bum algorithm. And I have found manually starting & stopping the exercise cumbersome as well. That’s why I rely on the auto tracking. Well, it’s an explanation, so thank you.
