Can't edit my running/exercise distance?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I run on an indoor track from time to time and therefore the GPS doesn't record the distance I've covered accurately. I've tried to look for solutions to this problem and it's been advised that details can be edited by tapping on the exercise tile on the Fitbit iOS app. I've tried that, but every time I change the distance the details quickly revert to the recorded data.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, @Moose117,  for indoor running you should make sure GPS is not turned on, as this will save battery.

Without GPS your distance will be calculated by multiplying the number of steps detected by your stride length.  This will always be an estimate, because, of course, no one runs (or walks) with an exactly consistent stride.  Nevertheless, you can improve the accuracy by adjusting your stride length.  Instructions here.

As yu have noted, distance is not something that you can edit for a previously recorded activity.  You would need to delete the run and then re-add it manually.  Instructions for creating a manual log here

So what’s the point of having a Fitbit if I have to manually log it in?  I purchased a $300 Ionic and I have less control over my exercise data—-especially distance editing.  I ran on the treadmill, GPS turned off, and the distance is half a mile off. Can we please have this SIMPLE algorithm fix?!!!  Give us a choice!  I have been a Fitbit customer for years and for the first time, I want to return this device for something else.

Good things come to those who wait! This feature has been implemented for iOS!

When is it coming for Android? Or Desktop? It's incredibly frustrating to not edit distance or time if you forget to end/start an activity. I saw threads about bringing this back from 2015 -- I'm disappointed it's taken 3 years (and perhaps longer) to implement something the community keeps asking for.

KateFitbit: it has? I just tried it and it doesn’t work, it just resets to what was recorded, it doesn’t save.

@MarcoGFitbit I can choose to edit, but when I hit done, the workout reverts to the previous mileage.

@MarcoGFitbit  I tried responding with screenshots before, but it didn't work and I needed to do it from a computer.  Yes, I tried force quitting prior to responding to you before.  I have also tried logging out, restarting my phone and trying again.  Neither of these fixed the issue.

Hello @ceb33, I hope you're doing well, thanks for taking the time to reply with the screenshots requested.

I appreciate you have tried the troubleshooting steps I've provided earlier. At this moment, I would like to suggest you to check the Activities Section of the online Dashboard and check if your activity appears edited here. If it does, that means the app it's not updating the information correctly, in which case I would like to suggest you to first sync your Fitbit device, then uninstall and reinstall the app to force the information to update correctly.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, give it a try and keep me posted!

@MarcoGFitbitWhen I look at my Activity History the mileage is correct (see screenshot), but when I click on View Details for that activity it brings up the original mileage (see second screenshot).  Deleting the app and reinstalling did not fix the issue, the app is still bringing up the incorrect mileage for the activity and doesn't update when I edit it.

Has it? Because I can’t edit a thing right at this very moment. Or previously.

@MarcoGFitbit thanks for your help with this! The ability to edit Treadmill exercise distances (not just runs) would also be useful.

Thanks!

I’m having the same issue editing the mileage for an outdoor run on iOS. I’ve tried logging in and out, deleting and reinstalling the app, turning off my phone etc. Would love a resolution!
