The situation you describe raises a lot of questions about what the specific issue could be. Once you press on the "Steps" title in the Fitbit app, you will see something like this:
In my understanding, you aren't able to see the information displayed on this screen, is that right? If so, can you try logging out from the app and logging back in? Also make sure the app is updated as well as your phone OS.
