Current heart rate not being displayed in iOS app

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I've got all day sync activated and the app is current. If I quit the app and re-open it works for some time and then just shows resting heart rate.

It is recording heart rate as the graph over time updates. It just doesn't show current heart rate.

Any ideas?

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @robsterc.

I appreciate your participation in the Forums and sharing that the current heart rate is not being displayed in the app. Thanks for trying to resolve this, I appreciate the additional details and I am here to help. Our team has just released a new version of the Fitbit app. Please make sure you have downloaded the new version by following these instructions.

I would like to confirm if you've tried the following:

  1. Log out from the Fitbit app.
  2. Force quit the Fitbit app.
  3. Reboot your phone.
  4. Open the Fitbit app and log back in to your account.

Looking forward to hearing back from you.

Thanks!

I've followed those steps but again whilst the current heart rate is displayed in the iOS app after re-opening the app, next time I take a look it's back to showing just resting heart rate.

Hi @robsterc. I'm glad to see you here again.

Thanks for keeping me updated and for trying the steps posted above. While this is odd, I'd recommend to try turning off and on the All-Day Sync and make sure to leave the Fitbit app running in the background so it can continue updating your details. If the issue to see persists, please provide me with the following information:

  • The model of your iOS device model.
  • The OS/software version of your iOS device.
  • Take a screenshot of what is displayed on the Fitbit app and attach it in your reply as described in this post.

I look forward to your reply.

Hi @LizzyFitbit

Thanks I tried those extra steps and strangely the steps and heart rate updated with all day sync off. I did turn it back on though and they continued to update whilst Fitbit was the active app. Later though whilst the app was running in the background its back to showing only resting heart rate when the app is opened again.

My device is an iPhone Xs, its running iOS 13.5.1

This is very similar to one of the issues I have been having for five months now.

In your phone's Bluetooth settings screen, does your device entry have the blue "Information" icon next to it? Or is it like mine, below?

IMG_0200.jpeg

If it is like mine, then you no longer have a clean pair with your device and you would be getting pairing/setup prompts in the app.

With your statement that you have all-day sync on and you have not mentioned pairing requests, I suspect it is just another bug in the app that has recently shown up and that I attributed to bluetooth pairing issues.

Good luck to us all.

Yes, I do have the blue info icon in my Bluetooth.
I don’t think my dashboard ever showed the current heart rate but only the resting rate.
At one time a week ago while I was having problems with pairing and got help, I did have the current heart rate showing and I did comment on either the App Forum or Charge 3 Forum and I was excited. But my excitement did not last for long.
Since you are a runner, I am sure you can appreciate how helpful it is to see the current heart rate on the IOS dashboard instead of looking at your watch for this info.
I wish Fitbit would find a solution for this!
Thanks.

The failure of dynamic update of the app does bother me.

But I have to say that I actually laughed out loud when I read you believed I was a runner - please take no offence.

I am not a runner. I haven't run since my last Physical Fitness Test as a Marine in November of 1978 at the age of 26. And even if I wanted to, my left knee would rebel - I almost didn't complete the 3 mile run portion of that last test because of the pain. But as has been discussed in another thread, when extremely motivated, a person can block out pain. Now I can't even crank up the treadmill to 5 mph and jog for more that one minute without it threatening to drop me and I am no longer motivated - the defense of my country no longer comes into play.

My Cross-Country Runner label is a FitBit Community "thing" to recognize my participation in the boards. I don't know how the three individual counts (Posts, Solutions and Votes) are weighted. I do know that an individual in one of the threads I am participating in has nearly four times my posts, five time the number of post selected as solutions and five times the votes - and is a 10K Racer.

@MrMarv

Thanks for you advice to check the Bluetooth settings. My charge 3 is showing a blue info icon so is behaving from a Bluetooth perspective.

hope we get a fix real soon

I'm having the same problem, but it just started a few days ago - I'm guessing when the app updated. I just uninstalled the app and re-downloaded. No it's showing the current heart rate, but after reading comments on this and other posts, I'm guessing that's temporary. At least I know a temporary fix now.

Update: Disregard my earlier comment. The very next time I opened the app (a couple of hours after typing my original comment), the heart rate again displays only Resting Heart Rate, not current. Nope, I'm not going to delete and reinstall the app every time I want to see my heart rate.

In preparation for this morning's hour on the treadmill...

  • I started the music on my phone through the sound bar in the garage
  • remove the FitBit app from memory
  • Restarted the app
  • Answered in the affirmative for my Versa 2 to pair with my phone
  • Verified my heart rate was being updated in the Today screen
  • Left the app in the foreground
  • Started the treadmill

Ten minutes and 30 seconds into the one hour session all dynamic updates to the Today screen - steps, miles, calorie burn, Heart Rate, calories left and steps per hour stayed static.

<<edit>> And after waiting about 45 minutes and a failed manual sync, I removed the app out of memory and restarted the app. Everything is back for the time being.<</edit>>

Hello Kathy

Keep me posted if your dashboard continues showing the current heart rate in addition to the resting heart rate.
Once you confirm in a few days, I will try doing the same.
Thanks. Enjoy. Stay safe.

Don't worry, you're not alone. I, too, am having issues with the latest app just showing resting heart rate and not current. I've tried everything and even though I can get it to work, it stops after a while. Clearly, something Fitbit have done in the latest iteration of the app has broken the current heart rate indicator in the app.

And I don't want to sound critical but it bothers me a lot that every time someone comes on this forum to point out an issue or problem, the immediate assumption by Fitbit is that it's not an issue with their product. The app WAS working fine and the latest update is NOT.

@SunsetRunner

Maybe with more of us experiencing the issue Fitbit support will look into it.

Best Answer

@SunsetRunner That's just how my app behaves: if you get it to update you can be sure later that it will no longer be doing the same.

Hope they fix this soon...

Hi Rob and Kathy

The problem may lie with Fitbit not being compatible with IOS 13.5.1 for sure even though my Charge 3 never showed the current heart rate, only resting heart rate on the dashboard.

I'm having the same problem (Heart rate stops live updating) since the latest App update to 3.24.1 automatically installed itself (grr...). iOS 13.5.1, Alta HR.

Here's a quick way to get it going again (until it stops working again 😡 ). In the App, tap your Account, and then select your device (for me Alta HR). Scroll down until you see "All Day Sync". Turn it off, then turn it on again. Voila! Function returns - for any where from 1 to 4 hours.

It still needs to be fixed by Fitbit - ha ha! - but this is A LOT easier than re-installing the App, or even restarting it.

HTH! Cheers.

@LizzyFitbit  The current heart rate not showing absolutely started right when the App updated to 3.24.1;  I recall the "Cleaning up your something-something..." dialog that always appears during an update. None of the usual things (forgetting and then re-pairing, kill and restart app, reboot iPhone, etc.) has any permanaent effect. Hope that helps!

Hi
Thanks a lot and I did what you recommended and I can see my current heart rate also.
Let’s see how long this lasts.
Thanks again.
