Your phone does not record the steps, but your tracker does. They show on your phone after syncing for which you will need a bluetooth connection. However, they should still show once that connection is established and the tracker and phone have synced. While it is nice to have bluetooth on all the time for easy syncing, it is not necessary and they will sync once bluetooth becomes available again. If you have problem with this I suggest you restart your tracker 3 times according to this article. If that does not solve it for you, you can troubleshoot further with the tips provided on this page.
