I have been getting sleep cycle data (yeah!) in the fitbit app for a few weeks how. however, when I go to Dashboard/Settings and select Data export, the sleep data does not show the detail of the sleep cycles (how much time/% time in light, REM, deep and awake). It show columns:
Date | Minutes Asleep | Minutes Awake | Number of Awakenings | Time in Bed |
And the data in those columns is not even correct- For example, it says on one day I was awake for 13 minutes one time, but the sleep cycle data in the app says I was awake 49 minutes 28 times!
When will the export data function match up to the fitbit app data?

Hello @KarenKeet, I hope you're having a great day, it's nice to see you around!
This seems like a very odd situation, would it be possible for you to reply to me with a screenshot of the sleep information in the Fitbit app and the information displayed on the exported data? That will be very helpful for me to check this further.
Thanks for your patience and understanding, if there's anything else I can do for you, please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your reply!

Hi @MarcoGFitbit Yes, happy to supply that info- I am, attaching 2 screen shots. One is from the fitbit app, where you can see it has recorded time that I was awake, and in light, REM and deep sleep. From the graph you can see I was awake more than one time during the night. The second is the data which was in the data export file. As you can see, it says I was awake only 3 minutes (vs 1 hour) and it also says I was awake zero times! The total minutes asleep also is not the same between the app and the export download.
Fitbit app data
Data export data
Hope this helps.

@MarcoGFitbit - any further thoughts on this after seeing the data?

Hi there @KarenKeet, thanks for taking the time to reply, I hope you're having a great day.
Thanks for sending the screenshots, I'll make sure to forward the information to our team and I'll make sure to update the thread once I have more information about this situation.
Thank you for your patience and understanding, in the meantime, if there's anything else I can do for you, please keep me posted.

I'd like to know more about the sleep data export too as mine doesn't match up either - not for any day.
For example my dashboard says that last night I was awake for a total of 48 minutes and woke up 22 times, while the export data shows minutes awake as 8 and number of awakenings as 1.
If I add up the Deep, light and REM sleep from the dashboard, it comes to 406 minutes, while the export data says I was asleep 446 minutes.
Which data is correct? Is the export data rounding up or down?

Hello Marco,
I'm also noticing a discrepancy between the sleep data displayed on my iPhone and those exported to Excel. Could you provide any more information about this?
Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer. I hope you have a great day.

Is there any more information or advice? I have the same issue: Exported sleep data is quite different to that shown on my iPad. For example, 10 Jul 2017 app on iPad shows time asleep as 7 hr 10 min (441 min), time awake 1 hr 41 min (101 min). Exported data for 10 July, shows Minutes Asleep 442, Minutes Awake 42 (not even close!) Between 1 July and today (13 August) only one day has matching data. That was a day that my fitbit did not record my sleep cycles (due to a low battery, I think). This is not just an issue of missing sleep cycles though. The total time awake should surely be the same?

Fitbit upgraded the tracking to various sleep levels (Light, Deep, REM) several months ago, but they appear not to have changed the fields in the export. These appear to still be tracking the older, more primitive sleep categories.
Their stated philosophy about the export is that your data is YOUR data. Count me in for votes to upgrade the export to include the better data.

To the original poster, looks like they did add the columns for summaries of each stage. However for me, I wanted to get the fine grained data, so I could make a chart out of it.
To the devs, sleep cycle tracking is awesome, let us get at this data. It would be a huge pain to have to scrape my own data from the apis:
EDIt it's really late, I just realized what I was asking is probably not be feasible, given a night could theoretically generate infinite numbers of entries. Anyways for anyone else interested, the endpoint the website uses is https://web-api.fitbit.com/1.2/user/<userID>/sleep/date/<YYYY-MM-DD>.json?date=<YYYY-MM-DD>&id=<user...>

I just exported my sleep data, but as previously mentioned in this post, the details aren't exported. In particular, all my deep sleep cycles seem to end in a very short (30s - 1min) awakening. This is interesting data that I wish to share with my doctor. If I could export this that would be very helpful.

@MarcoGFitbit It seems the ball has been dropped on this. Please provide and update. Thanks!
