Editing an imported Activity causes me to lose steps

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

In the last two weeks or so, any time I try to change an activity that is imported from Runkeeper, it removes all of the steps. For example, this morning I ran 22 minutes for what they said was 2,914 steps. It's under the default category of "Running (jogging), 5.2 mph (11.5 min mile)" that Runkeeper gave it. If I try to change it to "Run" (which I have done in the past), it zeroes out my steps taken and takes it off my daily total. Both on the app and the web dashboard. This has only started happening in the last two weeks.

Here it is with the Runkeeper default:

Changed to run:

Is this a system error? Am I doing something wrong? Like I said, this worked prior to about two weeks ago.

Hello @CUGoose, have a warm welcome to the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you on board. Smiley Happy

Since when are you experiencing this issue? Are your apps updated? Which tracker are you currently using? If you haven't done it yet, please try to log out from the Fitbit app and log back in. If you're still missing steps after trying to update an exercise, please follow these instructions in order to upload the screenshots once again as I'm unable to see them in your post.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, if there's anything else I can do for you, please feel free to reply.

@CUGoose - I repeated this bug.  Just did it with an imported run from MyFitnessPal and after changing the name of the activity to "Run" like you did, the steps reported for the activity also dropped to zero.  After a screen refresh, it also appear to delete the steps from my daily total.

But that's not the end of the story.  I then deleted the exercise from my exercise list and my daily step total updated back to what it was before I categorized the activity.

So I agree there is a bug, but the GOOD NEWS is that your steps are still there.  You just have to delete the activity to get them back.  And -- going forward -- you have to resist the urge to recategorize your imported runs.  At least for a while.

Hopefully @MarcoGFitbit will report the bug.

Hello @CUGoose, thanks for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate your insight about this situation @Baltoscott, thanks for joining the conversation.

@CUGoose, as @Baltoscott it seems there's a bug related to imported exercises, please try the process he described in order to get your steps back, I'll make sure to pass along this information to our team so they can take a better look at this situation. Once I have more information available, I'll make sure to update the thread accordingly.

Thanks for your patience and understanding, if there's anything else I can help you with, don't hesitate to reply. Smiley Happy
