Exercise app crashing

ANSWERED

I use the exercise app to track running.  Today it repeatedly crashed and would not track the running. It also seemed to lockup at the “wants you use location services” prompt.

No issues as of Saturday, started on Monday.

Thank you,

Steve

Hello again @SteveinRoa

As a last resort I would delete the Fitbit App, restart device, head to App Store and download Fitbit App again, make sure Bluetooth is indeed on, login as usual and wait for Bluetooth prompts (won’t take long and choose always on Bluetooth app. Then try to start an exercise again. Let’s see if that does the trick.

Hello @SteveinRoa

I understand that your having trouble with the exercise app crashing as well as location services issues. Maybe I can help. Let’s check your device settings first:

device settings>privacy>location services>Fitbit>Always

device setting>Fitbit>Access>location>always

Go to your exercise tile located among your current challenges on the main page of the Fitbit App. Tap the plus sign to the right of the exercise tile. Under track option tap location services if not already enabled.

😉 Please let me know if this solves your issue

Why would Fitbit need location services always enabled?  I have never enabled this before.

You don’t @SteveinRoa .... you can set as you wish but apparently yours was set to never since it wouldn’t work for you. You can set to “ask” “Always” “never” or just while using app” as your options. Did my suggestions in my previous post resolve your issue?

Ok. Did not fix. I usually have (and did when checked) have set to “while using app”. I changed to always, closed the app and restarted. No luck.

Hi. Deleting and reloading has worked.  I am still getting the prompt to “enable location services” while using - annoying, but functional.

Thank you for the help!

I’m super happy I was able to help @SteveinRoa!! If you wouldn’t mind could you please tap “best answer” under the suggestions/instructions I gave you that you thought helped the most? It really helps others who come to the Fitbit Community seeking answers for situations similar to yours. I’d appreciate it. 😃

On a side note to stop that “annoying “enable location services prompt” as you put it do this:

Let’s start by tapping your exercise tile in the Fitbit app. If you don’t have the exercise tile showing in the main page of the Fitbit app (where all your current challenges are) then tap Discover at the bottom left, then tap Health & Fitness Stats, then find exercise and tap it. Look to the bottom and tap “Add to today”.... that will pop you back to the main page. Now find the exercise tile and tap it. Look to the upper left and tap the stopwatch icon. Now tap “Enable Location Services” , then open settings and make your selection. (If it doesn’t let you select always then select when using the app) .....now go back to the Fitbit app and answer WiFi prompt. Now  go directly to your iOS setting and now you can change it to always. Gosh I hope all this makes sense. 😉
