Fitbit Alta not fully connecting to iPhone 5s device.

We have not be able to get my wife's new Fitbit Alta to fully connect to her iPhone 5s. During the setup phase, the iPhone finds the device and we put in the require number code and the bluetooth says it is connected, but the app continually says connecting to Fitbit Alta and never proceeds to the next setup step. We left in in the connecting mode several times for long periods, but no luck. Is the Fitbit Alta compatible to the iPhone 5s? I also tried connecting to my iPhone 5s too and it did the same thing. If it is compatible, what can I do to fix this problem. The bluetooth on both phones will not let us disregard the Fitbit Alta device and start over either. Also, the Fitbit Alta device only lights up with fitbit.com/setup. The device is fully charged. Thanks for any assistance.
