Do you still have your old phone?

It may still have a bluetooth connection to your fitbit that's preventing your new phone connecting.

Hello @EmilyHeath, thanks for joining us, it's a pleasure for me to welcome you to the Fitbit Community!, It's great to see you too @SteveH

@EmilyHeath, as @SteveH mentioned, it's possible that if  you still have your old phone around, the tracker is trying to communicate with this phone instead of your new one. If you still have it at hand, please go to the Bluetooth settings and check if your tracker is on the list of paired devices; if it is, tap on it and select Forget this Device. Then go to your new phone, open the Fitbit app and try to sync.

If this doesn't seem to work, please restart your tracker and your phone and try to sync once again. One thing to mention is that, Fitbit devices do not sync directly with the Bluetooth on your phone, they use the Fitbit app to communicate.

Give it a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else!

Unlike the previous owner, I do not still have my iPhone 6 since I had to trade it in to get my iPhone 7 Plus. What should I do?

Which tracker are you currently using? Have you restarted it yet? If so, my best recommendation would be trying to set up your tracker as a new device to reset the connection between the tracker and your phone. Don't worry, this won't delete any of the information previously stored in your account.

To set up your tracker as a new device:

  1. Open the Fitbit app and tap on the Account symbol at the top right corner of the screen, then tap on "Set up a New Device"
  2. Choose your tracker and follow the onscreen instructions to continue
  3. When the app asks you to replace your current tracker, please replace it and continue with the process.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and let me know the outcome. Smiley Wink

After fooling with my phone and Alta for the better part of yesterday and Googling all of the different options I laid my phone down for a minute and up popped a notification telling me that my phone and my Alta had synced! Hallelujah! Thank you for your very thorough answer, and just so you know, the next time I get a new phone I will remember to delete my device from my old phone before I turn it in.

Sincerely,

librarylinda

Hello @mcoll86, thanks for joining the conversation, it's a pleasure for me to welcome you to the Fitbit Community.

Your Fitbit tracker is able to sync with various devices; however, when you set up Notifications in the tracker, it will form a Bluetooth link with that specific device and it will be harder for the tracker to sync with another device when the other is around.

I hope this resolves your inquiry, if there's anything else I can do for you, please feel free to reply!
