Fitbit Connect won't start up on OS X Sierra (10.2.1)

I've been using the Fitbit Connect software happily on my Mac since I got my Charge HR in July. Since the latest update to OS X 10.12.1 (Sierra) I can't start the Fitbit Connect.

It loads for a short while, and the menu appears, but then I get a spinning beachball and it finally quits.

I can still sync my Charge HR via the Android app I have, so all is not lost, but it would be useful to be able to do it on both.

I don't use the dongle because my Mac has Bluetooth built-in, and USB ports are at a real premium. It's always worked just fine in the past.

When I look at the crash log created by Console it seems to be having a problem with the Fitbit Connect Menubar Helper process. (com.fitbit.GalileoMenubar):

Exception Type: EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGSEGV)
Exception Codes: KERN_INVALID_ADDRESS at 0xfffffffffffffff8
Exception Note: EXC_CORPSE_NOTIFY

I can provide more details either publicly or privately if required, if that would help your developers.

I did manage to re-download and reinstall the software and managed to get it to load and then sync once, but tonight it's gone back to not working. I think the OS update is not coincidental.

Any ideas?

Hello @SunsetRunner and welcome to the Fitbit Community!. Smiley Happy

Usually we recommend updating the OS in a computer so the Fitbit Connect software can work properly. However, I do understand when this is not possible and having already uninstalled and reinstalled the software on your computer, my best recommendation would be contacting our Support Team. Let them know about the steps you have tried so far, I'm sure they will be more than happy to assist you further with this situation.

I hope this can be helpful, let me know the outcome!

Hi,

As recently as yesterday the FitBit Connect app was refusing to load on my Mac. Then I couldn't get my tablet to sync either, so was contemplating being unable to sync at all.

However, I downloaded and reinstalled the desktop app again, and (despite being the same version) it now appears to work. I've no idea why as nothing has changed since yesterday. Maybe this install cleared out something that wasn't there. In any case, the problem has been solved but sadly I can't offer any reason as to why (in case anyone else has the same problem).

Not sure this has anything to do with the trackers but is all to do with an unaddressed issue in the FitBit Connect Mac client ...

I have exactly the same with my setup (not that it matters but Charge HR) ...

Since the MacOS Sierra update you can get it to work for about a day or so and then you have uninstall - reinstall and then it works for a bit and then you have to do the same ...

One of my other Macs that still has El Capitan works fine so my basic deduction is FitBit need to update their last release (2.0.1.6809 / August 18, 2016) to be compatible with the latest release of MacOS Sierra (now 10.12.4) which was released after their software!

I was hopeful the new release (2.0.1.6813 / March 23, 2017) had fixed this but alas it doesn't seem to have done ...

I've sent a load of crash logs to Fitbit so hopefully they will find the answer to the problem!
