Fitbit app is just compatible with iOS 13.4+

Hi,

I just purchased a bracelet - Fitbit Charge 4 and I tried to set it up, but it does not work.

I tried to download the Fitbit app and it does not work. I have an iPhone 6 (my latest iOS is 12.5.3 and I cannot upgrade more than that) and, when I try to download the Fitbit app from the AppStore, it says that I should have iOS 13.4 or later.

Does anyone know how I could solve this?

Is there a way to get an older Fitbit app on my iPhone?

Thanks in advance,

ioan

Hi,

I just purchased a bracelet - Fitbit Charge 4 and I tried to set it up, but it does not work.

I tried on iPhone 6, but it does not work.

Now I am trying with Fitbit Connect

Again, some troubles for which I need help if someone knows.

Fitbit Connect is a desktop app, I have MacOS Big Sur 11.4. I downloaded Fitbit Connect and tried to pair Charge 4. But when I arrive to the list with devices, I do not see Charge 4. I tried Charge 2 or Charge HR instead of Charge 4, but it just does not work

It says I should turn on Bluetooth, but it is turned on and it works perfectly well with other devices.

Does anyone know how I could solve this?

Thanks in advance,

ioan

@tlcbox   I'm sorry, but the Charge 4 isn't compatible with Fitbit Connect.  Users haven't been able to set up the newer devices with Fitbit Connect for some time now. And to add insult to injury, Fitbit Connect hasn't been updated in some time.  OS Catalina and Big Sur can't sync their older devices because Catalina and Big Sur aren't compatible with Fitbit Connect.

I don't know why you can't set up your Charge 4 on your iPhone 6.  You meet the listed requirements.  If the App store says you need iOS 13.4, then this is news to everyone.

I am going to merge this this post with your other post, because they involve the same topic.

@tlcbox   I am adding to this thread instead of editing my reply.  I want to make sure you get a notification.  Apparently, Fitbit did change minimum OS requirement for both Android and iPhones.  Compatible devices

Thanks, @LZeeW

I've been with the customer supp. for some time today and apparently they have changed the minimum requirements from yesterday to today (yesterday min. was iOS 12 & it did not work with my iPhone; today, as you noticed, they changed it to iOS 13)

Omg for the incompatibility with Fitbit Connect 😮😮 (I tried numerous times myself as well & it does not work). I was really relying on the fact that this might save me.

I cannot believe my situation - my phone is too old to set up the Charge 4, whereas my laptop is too new to do the set up there. And I even unpacked completely my Fitbit Charge so I do not think it will be accepted for a return.  🙁

If you think of some other options that I might use, let me know, please. thanks.

@tlcbox   Your laptop cannot save you.  The Charge 4 isn't compatible with Fitbit Connect at all.  Fitbit has a 45 day, no questions asked return policy, helpful if you bought your device from Fitbit.  Other retailers might have an "open box" fee.

The current iOS is 14.6.  Several models won't be able to upgrade to iOS 15 when it is released.  You have definitely maxed out your ability to upgrade.  Perhaps it is time to treat yourself to a new phone.

@LZeeW - thanks, in the meantime, I already ordered some wireless sync dongle hoping I could get my Charge 4 set up on a friend's device and then use it regularly via Fitbit Connect with my MacBook. Hopefully it will work.

As for my bracelet, it was not purchased from Fitbit. I have already removed all the seals from the one that I have so I seriously doubt I can return it.

Dunno what to say about getting a new phone, at some moment I should do it. However, it is very annoying this planned obsolescence thingie.

Thank you tlcbox.  My experience duplicates yours, exactly.  Very frustrating.

I think I will will return my fitbit.

@tlcbox   The dongle will not help you.  The Charge 4 isn't compatible with Fitbit Connect.  You will have a better chance pleading your case with the retailer to get your money back than you will have getting a Charge 4 to work with what you own.

@LZeeW  - I checked once again with the support service, and they said it will work to sync (though it will not work to set it up) via Fitbit Connect.

Fingers crossed! Let's hope it will do the trick.

Me: and

Me: If I set up my Charge 4 on a phone let's say

Me: Will I be able afterwards to sync it via Fitbit Connect with my MacBook that has MacOS Big Sur 11.4?

=/=: Yes, you'll just need to set up the Charge 4 using your phone and you can sync it using your MacBook.

Me: Are you absolutely sure about this?

=/=: Yes.

Me: Sure sure?

=/=: Yes. However, we recommend you to use your phone since it is easier to sync it.

I have the Charge 4 and iPhone 6 too, and no problems here.

Fitbit app version: 3.42 (1052)

Charge 4: 20001.100.43

iOS: 12.5.3

I haven’t tried Fitbit Connect though.

@Walkman55  Yeah, but I guess you got the app on your iPhone before they switched to higher min. requirements.

I purchased Charge 4 few days ago, before that I did not have the Fitbit app on my iPhone, I tried to get the app 2 days ago on my iPhone and then all the drama unfolded.

@tlcbox  Yes I purchased mine in March. Which app version do you have? I just deleted my app, downloaded it again and reinstalled it, and it’s still working fine. Very strange.

@Walkman55

Oh, that's very strange

I have an iPhone 6, iOS 12.5.3 (cannot update more than that, I tried).

I do not have the Fitbit app on my iPone. When I try to download it from the App Store, it says "This application requires iOS 13.4 or later".

@Walkman55  The only that could help me is somehow to get the older version of Fitbit in my iPhone, but I do not think that's so easy to do.

@tlcbox I got the same message in App Store, but I could download it and got version 3.42 instead of the current version 3.43. Very strange indeed!

@Walkman55 oh, but how did you get beyond that message? In my case that message is in a small pop-up, I have only the option of "Ok" and, if I press that, then it does not do anything else. It just stops.

@LZeeW I chose re-download the app (the icon with a cloud and down arrow) and then got a pop-up asking if I wanted to install an older version, and that’s it.

The difference is obviously that I’ve had the Fitbit app on my iPhone 6 before. Don’t understand though why that would make any difference since I deleted the app and all its data from my phone before downloading it again?

Very strange.

For me it does not work.

I tried that option (the icon with a cloud and down arrow) for other apps and I do not have the pop-up whether if I want to install an older version. Again, I tried for other apps that I had previously downloaded.

Are you sure you have iPhone 6 and not 6s?

Could it have something to do with country/region of your app store?

@LZeeW - see above that for some other iPhone 6 users, apparently it works 😞

@tlcbox Yes, I’m 100% sure I have an iPhone 6 and not the 6s.

I’m in Sweden, Europe.

This issue is really strange I have to say. And to complicate matters, I don’t think there are many iPhone 6 users left out there I’m afraid.
