It shows only calories, which mean nothing to me as I don't log them. I also don't care about weight goals, mindfulness, playing music while exercising. I care only about steps & distance traveled (used to care about stairs climbed, but you discontinued the One), and there appears to be no way of getting data other than calories displayed. The premium option gives no help. Will probably throw the thing into a desk drawer and forget about fitbit, for I have no need of a wristband, a watch, or more bulky devices.

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @bevelhead.
I am sorry to hear your Fitbit app shows only calories and won't display steps. Thanks for the details shared, I understand how you are feeling and I am here to help. I recommend confirming if your device is paired to your Fitbit account by doing the following:
If your device is paired and syncing, please follow the steps to add tiles on your Fitbit app dashboard at How do I add, remove, or rearrange tiles on my Fitbit app dashboard?
Let me know how it goes, I'll be around.

Did all that. The tiles I have always had are all of the options (steps, miles, floors, active mins, calories). Looked at "how do I add..." and finally spotted the little tabs for the stats that mean anything to me, and was able to move 'em around. So something approaching semi-success. Thanks!
