in various circumstances steps and floors are wrongly counted especially while driving, it is imperative to have pause function on Surge or through mobile ap to avoid these circumstances, all standard answer for dominant hand setting etc do not help, few days back it showed 165 floor climbed while driving 200 km!

Hello @Paresh, thanks for joining us, it's a pleasure for me to welcome you to the Fitbit Community.
If you're driving through a bumpy road, it's possible the vibration will make your tracker count steps and floors. In this case I will like to suggest restarting your tracker and monitor it for the next few days. If you feel the tracker is still counting an abnormal amount of steps and floors, let's try testing its accuracy.
To test step accuracy:
1. Put your wrist-based tracker on your wrist or put your clip-on tracker on your hip or torso.
2. Walk 100 steps, making sure to count a step each time one of your feet hits the ground.
3. Pause, then check your tracker to see your step count.
To test floor accuracy:
1. Find a location where you have 2 flights of stairs in a row. Each flight of stairs should be at least 10 feet tall.
2. Place your tracker on your belt/waistband and check the number of floors before you begin to walk.
3. Walk up the 2 flights in a row, trying not to stop at any point.
4. Once you reach the top of both flights of stairs, stop to look at the number counted.
If you notice a significant discrepancy in the step count or floor count, please let me know so I can check this further.
I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and let me know the outcome!

Hi Marco,
I am having the same issue @Paresh is having. I just bought my fitbit charge 2 on Friday and drove to St. Louis from Columbia MO on Sunday. During that drive I some how, miraculously, walked 23 flights of stairs. You did not answer his question, nor mine. My fitbit charge 2 is tracking something while I'm driving. I climb stairs and take steps while I'm driving somehow. How can we avoid this is the question.
Heck, mine even said I walked 23 steps in my sleep last night. This is an issue. How can I adjust my fitbit to not count steps when I'm not taking them? Or climbing stairs when I'm not doing that.
thanks!
Rebecca

Hello @rdfsmith, have a warm welcome to the Fitbit Community! Thanks for taking the time to reply @Paresh, I hope you're doing well.
@Paresh and @rdfsmith, Fitbit trackers are designed to count steps based on the natural movement of the arms while walking. If you're driving through a bumpy road and if the terrain is changing elevations, the tracker might count steps and floors.
@Paresh, have you tried performing the accuracy tests? These test will determine if your issue is somehow related to the hardware itself. Additionally, please remember that if you're using your tracker in your non-dominant hand, the sensitivity of the tracker will be increased. In your case I would like to suggest going to the Fitbit app, tap on Account > Your tracker > Wrist and change the setting to Dominant. (while wearing the tracker in your non-dominant hand)
@rdfsmith, while you're sleeping, your tracker can count steps if you're moving in bed. In this case I would like to suggest going to your personal settings on the online Dashboard, check and modify the following settings:
* Wrist Orientation, if your setting is Left, change it to right, sync your tracker and change it back to Left.
* Handedness, if your settings is Right, change is to left, sync your tracker and change it back to Right.
* Sleep Tracking, if your setting is Normal, change it to Sensitive, sync your tracker and change it back to Normal.
Keep in mind that after any changes have been made you will need to sync your tracker to save them.
Lastly, if you'd like to remove the steps and floors recorded while driving, it's possible to log a Driving activity to remove these steps and floors. To add a Driving activity:
I hope this can be helpful, please give it a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else.

Does anyone read or all these are computer replies? Same suggestion even after telling none helps on bumpy road. I don't want to learn accuracy test. I want pause button as simple solution to keep track of activity

@MarcoGFitbit Thanks for your help here.
@rdfsmith @Paresh I wanted to add that you can delete any erroneous steps accumulating when driving by doing the following on the IOS app dashboard:
This will negate any of the steps accumulated
Also, @Paresh your thoughts to have a pause button while driving has been made in our Feature Suggestions boards, you can vote on it here.
Hope this helps!

Over 1000 results on google for this problem and that's just based on results from the official fitbit site / forum. Some of these posts go back to 2014, and still nearly 3 years later the problem hasn't been fixed. Check this link if you don't believe me - https://www.google.com/#q=site:fitbit.com+fitbit+adding+steps+while+driving
Why can't there just be a simple option added to the watch where you can pause it? Surely it can't be that difficult!
