GPS and HR tracking during exercise

I have a Charge 2 and the mobile app on an iPhone 7 running the latest iOS. Everything is updated to the latest version.

When I run or cycle, I sometime track from my Charge 2, and sometimes I track from my phone app. I am never sure which is better.

Sometimes my finished track data includes HR data, sometimes it doesn’t. Sometimes it includes GPS data, sometimes it doesn’t. When the GPS data is missing this is frustrating because the exercise only syncs to Strava if GPS is included.

What is is the best way to track a run or ride that will ensure the result includes both HR and GPS data?

Hello @NormoMcSamuels welcome aboard! I'm happy to give you a hand with your concern.

Seems odd that your device is behaving in such way, this is certainly not a common situation nor the way we designed our Charge 2 to perform. To better assist you, can you please let me know when was the first time you experienced this and how many times since then? This always happen when you do an exercise activity? Are you using our SmartTrack feature to auto-recognize the exercise or using the exercise shortcut directly on your Fitbit? If you haven't already done so, I recommend you to restart your device following the next steps:

  1. Plug the charging cable into the USB port on your computer or any UL-certified USB wall charger.
  2. Clip the other end of the charging cable to the port on the back of the tracker. The pins on the charging cable must lock securely with the port.
  3. Make sure the button on your tracker is aligned with the button opening on the charging cable. You’ll know the connection is secure when the tracker vibrates and you see a battery icon on your tracker’s display.
  4. Press and hold the button to restart your tracker:
    • For Charge 2—press and hold the button on your tracker for 4 seconds. When you see the Fitbit logo and the tracker vibrates, the tracker restarted.
  5. Unplug your tracker from the charging cable.

Looking forward to your reply. Let me know if you have any additional questions.
