GPS tracking not working on IOS.

Iphone 7 running IOS 13.5,1. Running current Fitbit app 3.25. Not sure when it last auto-updated but App store shows it current. Beginning Saturday 7/11/20 GPS tracking of hikes hasn't worked properly. After starting session and locking phone it doesn't track route. When I check progress mid-hike it jumps straight line (not actual route) to the current location and mileage counts up. GPS access set to ALWAYS. Background App refresh ON. Worked fine for years until 7/11/20. Tried restarting the phone. Didn't help.

@WMichael -

I, too, in the past have had issues with assisted-GPS with my iPhone 8 and Versa 2 with either the app minimized or the screen locked. With iOS release 3.24 and now 3.25, I have not experienced that issue as long as I take the following steps:

Last night I took a one mile after-dinner walk through the neighborhood.

  • Restarted the iOS app, answered the request to pair (more on that later), and minimized it.
  • Started a playlist in Music/iTunes. (just pointing out that the FitBit app is still in the background)
  • Locked the screen with Music/iTunes still in the foreground.
  • Started the "Walk" exercise app on my Versa 2, receiving the "Connected" message within five seconds.
  • Proceeded to "pound pavement" at a leisurely rate.

Never lost the GPS connection during the approximately 25 minute walk.

Good clean map at the end of the .98 miles.

My experiences have been compounded, I believe, by the fact that I have never had a clean Bluetooth pairing of my Versa 2 to my iPhone 8 since purchasing it on January 31, 2020. That is why I have to take the app out of memory and restart it before each assisted-GPS exercise, as well as a dozen or more times each day.

Mine has been exactly the same since I updated to the latest iOS software and updated the fitbit app last week. So irritating!

Mine started misbehaving around the 7/7.  I have now updated to 3.25 - no dice.  Basically, the GPS connects perfectly if the app is open in the foreground, will not connect if the app is backgrounded.

Location services: ALWAYS

Background app refresh: ON

If I open the app, sync, move to another app - no GPS connection.
If I had to guess, the problem is the removal of the "All day sync" option from recent versions of the fitbit app.

If I start an excercise, leave it 2-3 minutes - no connection. Then foreground the app again, gps will connect correctly.  The app appears to be completely shutting down when it's no longer foreground (no - not force closed).  Reboots and reinstalls make no difference.

Mine resolved after a hard boot of the iphone (not just turning it off and on). Method for hard reboot varies by phone model.

That seems to have done it!  I've rebooted the normal way half a dozen times - no dice.  But a hard reboot and it all seems to be going right again.  Will keep an eye on it.

Thanks!

Hi @EmmaRevill, welcome to our Fitbit Community. I'm sorry to hear that the GPS feature is not working properly even though your Fitbit device has the recent firmware update. I'd like you. In order to assist you better, please let me know what is the model of your Fitbit device.

@MikeBerriman @WMichael, I'm so glad to hear that you guys managed to get the issue resolved by performing a hard reset. Thank you for posting the updates here. Don't hesitate to get back if you see anything unusual and I'll be happy to follow up.
