Heart rate zones not recording accurately

Hello,

I upgraded from a Charge to a Sense 2 early in January. Since then the recorded Active Zone minutes showing on my Iphone app has dropped hugely (although i am still exercising just as much). In December I had 301 hours 'In Zone'. In January I had 80.5 hours.I thought it might calibrate itself, but it hasn't. On exploring this on the web dashboard, I was encouraged to see that what I believe to be the more accurate number is recorded if I bring up the heart rate chart, 28 days, and hover over the day in question. For example on 29th Jan it reports 24 peak, 148 cardio and 725 fat burn. This seems about right for a day which involved a fairly strenuous hike up a hill. On the day view for the same day it gives 5 peak, 56 cardio and 156 fat burn. The app gives the second reading only.

Is this an error in the software, or have I inadvertently set my new watch up incorrectly.

Thanks for any help - it is a bit demoralising as it stands.

Hello @Quincecat and welcome to the Community.  Can you be more specific about your previous Charge model?  For example the Charge HR, Charge 2, and Charge 3 give active minutes.  The Charge 4 gives active zone minutes like your Sense 2.  Active minutes are very different from active zone minutes.  They use different equations with different heart rate thresholds.  It is harder to earn active zone minutes.  Also, active zone minutes are reported as moderate and vigorous/peak.  What are Active Zone Minutes or active minutes on my Fitbit device?  You mentioned the web dashboard.  The web dashboard was never updated to show active zone minutes.  The fact that you wrote that the web dashboard looks right suggests you upgraded from an active minute tracker.  Active minutes are out of date and no longer recognized as a measure of physical activity.

Thanks for replying. That is confusing. However, I am not looking at the active zone minutes, or active minutes, I am looking at the 'heart' section on my app and on the web dashboard. There it shows the historical data (I think from a Charge 2, but i can't find out how to check which version it is). It has always shown a graph with a yellow, orange and red bar showing fat burn, cardio and peak heart rate. This is still exactly how i would expect it on the dashboard 28 day view. But shows much less activity on day view and always on the app. Iphone app - minutes in heart rate zonesIphone app - minutes in heart rate zones

@Quincecat   That bar graph is a different way of showing your active minutes from your Charge 2 and your active zone minutes from your Sense 2.  Unfortunately, that graph is also out of date.  There is no software error and you didn't setup anything incorrectly.  Active zone minutes are different from active minutes.  Trying to compare your Charge 2 numbers to your Sense 2 numbers is like comparing apples to oranges.

OK - thank for explaining. It seems a bit unfortunate that the stats I have got accustomed to using to motivate myself, and track my fitness long term have changed in the new tracker. However, i am sure i will work out a way to make sense of it.

Thanks
