How does All-Day Sync work?

I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a set time when the fitbit tries to sync? like does it sync at the beginning of every hour or is it like maybe every 30 min?

My background app usage is extremely high and i'm trying to figure out why as it's killing my battery.

When i open the app it only takes like a minute to sync,  but my background app usage shows over 4 hours!  If you do the math it's supposedly syncing over 240 times a day. Now when i manually open the app it doesn't appear that its been syncing 240 times a day as thee can be thousands of steps that are missing.

What data is actually syncing in the background during all day sync and how often should it be syncing?

Hello again @thenameless1 good to see you.

Syncing is the process that transfers the data your device collects to your Fitbit dashboard. The dashboard is where you can track your progress, see how you slept, set goals, log food and water, challenge friends, and much more. Fitbit trackers and watches use Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) technology to sync with phones, tablets, and certain computers. Fitbit scales use Wi-Fi to connect directly to your router. Data automatically syncs to the Fitbit app throughout the day. To get the best results, keep all-day sync turned on. If you turn off all-day sync, its recommend to sync at least once a day. Each time you open the Fitbit app, your device syncs automatically when it's nearby. You can also use the Sync Now option in the app at any time by dragging the main downward then releasing.

Most Fitbit devices record detailed minute-by-minute data for 7 days. (Fitbit Alta records minute-by-minute data for five days). Fitbit devices can store daily totals for up to 30 days.

If you have a Fitbit Surge, your device can store 35 hours of GPS data before deleting some data to make room for more.

Keeping All Day Sync on is a choice and doesn’t have to be activated to continue to function properly but again All Day Sync will offer better real time results. If you feel All Day Sync is reducing you’re battery life too quickly by all means disable it.

Why did the syncing process change?

In the past one did not need to go into the app to trigger the sync function.

I have a Samsung device and a Ionic watch. The Fitbit widget on my Samsung dashboard/home screen was always updated automatically. Now I need to access the Fitbit app on my phone to drigger the sync functionality, even though its set to Sync All Day.... that's quite a step backwards!
