How does built in GPS compare to app?

Is built in GPS more accurate than data just using the app? I have a Versa 2 so use the app to track my walks as it doesn’t have GPS. This used to work fine but doesn’t anymore. If I buy a newer model with built in GPS does the app update using data from the watch? Could it correct my problem?
