I am new to FitBit. I purchased the flex2 product. I am unclear on the recording my FitBit does of my sleep. I have read that all I have to do is wear this device to bed and it will track my sleep. I had a bad night last night and did start to sleep about 10:15 pm, but was awake and asleep until after midnight. The FitBit recorded my sleep starting at 12:15 am instead of 10:15 pm.
Also, I don't understand when to start a sleep log or what a sleep log does. I tried to start a sleep log the other night and got a message that I "cannot create a sleep log, since one already exists".
I think I can cause the FitBit to "start sleep" manually. Yes?.
Is it possible to edit my FitBit numbers after it automatically records my sleep?

Apparently there is no way to edit automatically recorded data, but you can delete that automatic log and replace it with one that you enter manually. I guess add a log that only includes the 2 hours the fitbit missed if you want to keep the data it recorded, too. So you'd add a sleep time of 10:15p-12:14a and it would just be added to your time asleep with no real sleep data (similar to the way it records naps).

Hello @rbdaves and @Spam247, have a warm welcome to the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you both on board!
@rbdaves, congratulations on your new Flex 2, I hope you find this new journey exciting! I will do my best to explain to you how sleep works on your tracker.
Fitbit trackers estimates your sleep using a combination of your movement and heart-rate patterns. When you haven’t moved for about an hour, your tracker or watch assumes that you’re asleep. Additional data—such as the length of time your movements are indicative of sleep behavior (such as rolling over, etc.)—help confirm that you’re asleep. While you’re sleeping, your device tracks the beat-to-beat changes in your heart rate, known as heart rate variability (HRV), which fluctuate as you transition between light sleep, deep sleep, and REM sleep stages. When you sync your device in the morning, we use your movement and heart rate patterns to estimate your sleep cycles from the previous night. In your case, it seems your tracker wasn't able to measure your sleep until 12:15 am because as you mentioned, you were awake and slept until midnight.
Now, if you'd like to start a sleep log from the app without relying on your Flex 2, you can do it by going to the Fitbit app and tap on the Sleep Tile, then on the plus sign on the top right corner of the app and then on "Begin Sleep Now" at the time you're going to bed. The reason you were not able to create a new sleep log was because your tracker auto-detected one already and it's not possible to manually override a log that was already recorded. However, it is possible to edit an auto-detected log by tapping on it and tapping on the ellipsis (...) icon on the top right corner, once you do you will be able to to either Edit the log or Delete it.
I hope this can be helpful and resolves your inquiry, if there's anything else I can do for you, please feel free to reply, I'll be happy to help.
