How to change distance on treadmill exercise?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

Hello, I understand that the distance tracked on my Alta Hr after a walk/run on the treadmill is dependent on stride length etc. If after a treadmill workout, can I simply change the distance to reflect the accurate distance I walked based off the treadmill? I see that I can only edit the duration of my workout. Thanks!

Hello @Zack-Wagenmaker, I hope you're doing well, it's nice to see you around the Fitbit Community. Smiley Happy

I appreciate you have taken the time to post some screenshots; however, without context it's hard for us to determine your issue. Tell me, which tracker or watch are you currently using? Did you start the Treadmill exercise from the tracker/watch itself or did you manually added the activity? More information will be very helpful for us to check this further and determine what we should do next.

We'll be waiting for your next reply, have a great day.

I found this solution does not work for me. Even if I manually log a treadmill activity, I still cannot edit the distance, only the start time, duration, and calories.

This has been a huge point of frustration with me regarding fitbit, the fact that I do the majority of my runs on a treadmill and cannot accurately track distance or pace as a result.

I also think it's quite ridiculous that despite all of the complaints from customers regarding this issue, that it still has not been implemented as a feature in the app; this would be quite a simple addition.

I am using a Charge 2 and will be looking for my next fitness tracker outside of Fitbit because your company is failing user experience 101.

Same issue here. Manually triggered a workout on treadmill and the distance recorded was quite off compared to the actual distance shown by the treadmill. I only see the workout dates can be adjusted and the other features do not show up when I click “edit” on the workout session.

Bruce,

What I found works best for me is starting on treadmill run on my device,
this way the start time and duration of the activity is precise. After the
run is completed go to your exercise log in app, select the treadmill run
and then tap "categorize exercise" and change it to "run" instead. Then
you'll be able to change the distance when you edit exercise details and it
will recalculate your pace based on the corrected distance you enter.

The other thing I've found helpful is to run a distance on the treadmill
and use the amount of steps recorded in the app to calculate the correct
stride length, which you can then enter in the app under advanced settings.
When I did this, the last treadmill run I did actually had the distance
spot on in the app and I didn't need to manually correct it. This method
isn't bulletproof; however, since your stride length will vary with your
running pace, but it's a better starting point and then if you find you
still need to correct the distance afterwards in the app you can always do
so by re-categorizing the exercise to run instead of treadmill.

This of course could all be solved without workarounds if Fitbit simply
allowed users to correct a treadmill distance in app. It's such a simple
change it's bizarre that they've never implemented it, given the number of
folks who complain about this issue in the forums. The app could calculate
the pace given the correct distance and then know how to better estimate
stride length based on the pace of the runner for subsequent runs. It ain't
rocket science but I guess the their genius Product Managers haven't
figured this out yet or they probably have but Management is too tone def
to allow them to prioritize development of features that customers actually
want (this is usually the more likely case in mediocre consumer companies
like Fitbit).

Hi tlocke01,

I think we all agree that all those crappy workarounds could be solved very
easily if Fitbit just allowed the user to edit the distance. I just can't
understand why they're reluctant to add that functionality...

I just got my Fitbit Versa2 and have been excited to use it. But I agree with everyone else--it's a common sense fix. Fitbit says I ran about three-quarters of the distance that I actually ran. If it doesn't know exactly how far I ran, fine. But, how is this activity tracker supposed to be of any use if it doesn't have accurate data.

Garbage in, garbage out.
