How to edit step goal without affecting previous days?

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My daily step goal is set as 10,000. For the past 4 weeks, I have been hitting my target and have a green star against each day. In order to keep myself motivated, I want to increase my daily goal. I updated the goal on the app, but when I go back to the list of daily steps, most of my green stars have disappeared.  I had hoped that I could change the goal for future progress but that previous progress would remain as it was, but it seems not to be the case.  Any tips?

Hello @Winnie10, I hope you're having a great day, it's nice to have you on board. Smiley Happy

I understand how you like to set a new step goal without affecting your previous days goals reached, however at this moment this is not possible, once you change the step goal, this will affect all of your records, including past and future days. In this case I would like to suggest you to submit your insight about this feature as a suggested idea, where members of the Community can vote for it and add their comments. This is truly the best way to make your voice heard.

I hope this can be helpful, if there's anything else I can do for you, please keep me posted. Smiley Wink

Thanks for your reply.  I will certainly submit it as an idea per your advice.  The technology is there as it works that way on the Fitbit.com dashboard on a PC, so I would hope it could be replicated on the App.

How in the world is this not a feature yet? It should be a really easy fix. What is the reason for why changing the steps goal is retroactive?

It doesn't make any sense that increasing one's goal should affect previous goals.

Almost 2 years later and this is still not fixed? It seems to me that it would be more difficult to go back and retroactively change years of data when previous goals were achieved. It would be easier to simply make changes effective going forward. This is ridiculous.

And it shouldn’t be a feature that only works for new products!  It should be an app update for ALL products, past, present and future!  No gimmicks to make users go buy something new when what we have works perfectly fine!

So.... The link to vote is from a suggestion 5 years old with 1700+ votes.

With that length of time, should we just accept that it won't happen rather than "we'll think about it"?

Changing ALL records (past and present) probably makes things easier for Fitbit instead of having to keep track of:

“Monday goal - 6,000 steps
 Tuesday goal - 9,500 steps

Wednesday goal - 4,827.5 steps” etc..

It’d be really nice to have an option like that though. My current goal is 7,000 but I barely  hit 5,000 daily this past school year because I was sitting all day.  Now I’m hitting around 11,000 and this summer my step count will probably be even higher.
I guess until (or if) this is changed I’ll leave it at 7,000 and just mentally make a goal of 10,000 or something.

Unfortunately it's the same way.  I am wondering if other brand apps are the same way?
