I went to bed before 12 and woke up at 9am and had 13,000 steps already? Impossible unless I was sleep walking, which I have never made ever done! Why would this happen?

Welcome to the Fitbit Community, @dzeffarski2.

Thank you for joining the thread and sharing that you're experiencing the same issue. I understand how you are feeling about this situation and recommend confirming if you have MobileTrack paired to your Fitbit account. MobileTrack lets you use the Fitbit app without a Fitbit device by using your phone's sensors to track basic activity data including steps, distance, and calories burned. For more information, see How do I use Fitbit MobileTrack? MobileTrack may add extra steps and I recommend removing it from your Fitbit account if you're not using it: How do I remove a Fitbit device from my account?

Hope this helps.

Welcome to the forums!

By any chance was a fan going on in the room? This will add unwanted steps

You can remove the steps by adding a driving record

Hello @Andrews81 and @Laura3107, thanks for joining us in the Community, have a warm welcome! It's always nice to see you around too @WendyB, thanks for your insight on this situation. Smiley Happy

@Andrews81 and @Laura3107, according to what you're describing, it seems your tracker didn't reset at midnight and carried over the steps you had from the previous day. In order to prevent this from happening again, please restart your tracker. Then, monitor it for the next days to verify that this issue doesn't happen again. If your tracker is still carrying over steps from a previous day, please let me know.

I hope this can be helpful, give it a try and let me know the outcome! Smiley Wink

Hello @Gorunnow thanks for joining the conversation, I hope you're doing well. Smiley Happy

I appreciate your participation in the Forums and for sharing your experience with us. At this moment, as you have already restarted your Charge 2, my best recommendation is to set up your Charge 2 as a new device in your account to reset the connection between the tracker and your phone.

Note that none of the information already stored in your account will be deleted. To set up your Charge 2 again:

  1. Go to the Bluetooth settings on your phone and check if your tracker is on the list of paired devices. If it is, tap on it and select Forget this Device.
  2. Open the Fitbit app and tap on the Account symbol at the top right corner of the screen, then tap on "Set up a New Device"
  3. Choose your tracker and follow the onscreen instructions to continue
  4. When the app asks you to replace your current tracker, please replace it and continue with the process.
  5. When a pop-up appears asking you to Pair your tracker to your device, tap on Pair and continue.

I hope this can be helpful, give these steps a try and let us know the outcome!

I have a Charge 4, bought & setup 2 weeks ago and this has happened twice to me.  No fans, no driving, just sitting on a night stand and when I put it on in the morning it has logged 2,000 steps each time.

@MarcoGFitbit This happened on my Charge 2 and despite a couple of factory resets it still happened. The result of this UGLY bug is a lack of confidence in FitBit and will have me looking for a new 'fitness' tracker.

This issue needs to be bumped up on the roadmap.

Not really a comment to you Wendy but more to Fitbit....a fan in the room going while you are sleeping will add steps but actually hiking while using trekking poles will not?!?!  Sorry but this makes me a little crazy!

I have the Sense and it has worked as intended until the last few weeks. I wake up and I magically have 1000's of steps, sometimes 10,000+!

1. I have reset my device
2. They are not the same number as I ended with in the previous day, so not a failure of rollover.
3. I have updated the firmware and app.
4. I have set up my device as a new device, twice.
5. It is occurring on days that are not the "first" of the month.
6. I always sleep with an overhead room fan on and it has never done this before yet here we are. Also traveled out of town this last week and camped, no overhead fan and still woke up to magical night steps.
7. I have done a factory reset. Problem still exists.
8. I have uninstalled then reinstalled Fitbit MobileTrack in case my battery dies on my watch. My phone and watch are both stationary at night and neither should be counting and steps.

So, I'm left with wildly inaccurate step counts that do nothing to help me achieve my fitness goals! I'm super frustrated, I can't find any way to solve this that doesn't impact the integrity of step competitions I am in as well as just have my Fitbit work as intended😥

Hi there! I am having the same issue, but yesterday I had 7000 steps, and today I woke up and went to work and noticed I have 3.5k steps. I normally have just under 1000 bu the time I get to work, and I did not do a different activity today. I wonder if it can roll over half the steps or something?

Has this issue ever been solved? I woke up today with over 13,000 steps that is recorded happened in one minute around 7:30 am... It isn't the same number from yesterday. So frustrating and defeats the purpose of using a Fitbit to track steps and compare weekly or with others.
