Ionic won't sync to iPhone 8

I just received a Fitbit Ionic but it will not synch with my iphone 8.  I used to have a Fitbit Surge and I have deleted that device off of my Fitbit app.  I have logged out of the Fitbit app, shut off the bluetooth for the phone, rebooted the phone, turned on the bluetooth and logged back into the Fitbit app and I still can't synch the Ionic to the Iphone.  Any suggestions?

Congratulations on your new Fitbit Ionic! Let’s get you back up and running again. Follow these instructions if you already have a Fitbit account and want to replace your existing Fitbit device with a new one,

Tap your profile picture

scroll down and tap Set Up New Device

Choose your device and follow the on-screen instructions to continue.

Thank you for your email, MegaBite.  

I have tried multiple times to click on profile in the Fitbit app, selected "Set Up A Device", selected the Ionic option, clicked on "Set Up", and it ends up just searching with the Ionic right next to it.  The Ionic keeps switching between the Fitbit logo or a black screen.  
I have disconnected the Bluetooth and removed the Fitbit app prior to rebooting my iphone.  Then I turn on the iphone, download the Fitbit app again, and turn on the Bluetooth.  When trying to add the Ionic to the Fitbit app I go through the same steps as mentioned above with the same results.
