Lapse and Regression of synced data

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I have noticed an ongoing circumstance that occurs when my Fitbit app on my iPhone8 syncs with my Fitbit device.  Essentially, the sync occurs and all of the step data, calories, etc appear up-to-date and steps appear to be tracking in ‘real-time’ at that moment.  Then I’ll lock my phone (for example while I’m walking) to put back in my pocket.  In 15-20 minutes, I’ll take the phone back out to take a look at the ‘today’ section of the Fitbit app, and it will display steps reading and other data points from WELL BEFORE the last sync occurred.  In other words, the data doesn’t agree with the previous synced data that was displayed on my phone the previous time I looked at the data.  It’s like the Fitbit app traveled back in time 12 hours  as far as the data is concerned.  If it is the Fitbit Versa watch and phone that are syncing to each other, how does the phone ‘forget’ data points it has already read from my watch?  This problem suggests to me that ‘syncing’ has more to do with sending my data to external servers and data centers on the web than a private communication of my personal and private data between 2 private devices I purchased and own privately.

Hi @Archie78. Welcome! It's great to see a new face around.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention and confirming your phone's model. Let me explain that sometimes when your watch starts syncing, your data will appear updated on the Fitbit app. However, if the sync doesn't complete, the step count will revert to the last amount synced. That said, may I know if you see any message when trying to sync your details? Are you also having multiple Bluetooth connections turned on during this process?

That said, I'd recommend to force quit the Fitbit app, reboot your phone, open the Fitbit app, tap your profile picture > Versa image > Sync Now. Once it has synced, turn on the All-Day Sync and keep an eye on its behavior before and after exercising.

I'll be around, let me know how it goes.

Hello Lizzie and thank you for your prompt response and consideration.
Oftentimes when the Fitbit app on my iPhone8 syncs, I get a message saying that an app failed to sync.  This message occurs even when the step count, calories, miles, etc have updated to display current counts.  There are other times when I don’t get this message and the data points I just mentioned seem to update and sync properly.  As far as having other Bluetooth devices connected, I CAN say that last night I did a walk/jog around 9:30pm and during that exercise I had my wireless Bluetooth Chisana earbuds connected so I could listen to music during my jog.  At the start of the jog I looked at my steps in the app and it indicated that I was somewhere close to 17,500 (can’t remember precisely).  I jogged and walked while periodically checking the step count on my phone.  The step count was increasing in real time.  I wanted to shoot for 20,000 steps or more for the day so at the end of my jog I was watching the app as my step count went above 20,000.  I then locked the phone and did a cool off walk for about 2 minutes.  At this point I was walking into my driveway and unlocked my phone to compare my calories, steps, etc to the day before.  When I opened the Fitbit app it now showed my step count for the day at 14,000 and something.  The day previous count was also wrong, etc.  I then closed and opened the app, got it to syn

Btw - and I realize this new issue could be way off-topic, but I noticed this morning that my Fitbit app no longer shows me as a premium member (as of this morning).  I double checked my Apple purchases and confirmed that my subscription was paid on the 24th of January and next payment is the 24th of February.  I took screen shots.  I also get notifications of replies to this post in my gmail account, and it shows a red dot by my profile thumbnail in the Fitbit app, but when I then click on my profile thumbnail to go to the messages/notifications page in the app it says I have none.  I’m just wondering if all of these glitches might be related?  Maybe there is a sort of duplication of my identity between app and servers that is updating between 2 mirrored profiles?  I’m an Architect, not a Programmer so I really have no clue.  It might also be worth mentioning that until recently I could see my Sp02 sensor chart under restoration in sleep but it disappeared last night.

Lizzie - thank you again for your time btw.  I am following your recommendations pertaining to force quitting the app, restarting my phone, etc, and will update the post when I know how it goes.

Hello again Lizzie,

So...I just force quit the fitbit app a few moments ago and also shut down and restarted my iPhone8 (running most current iOS).  I then opened/ran the Fitbit app and Voila!, the app (which had NOT shown as Premium this morning) now again showed me as a premium member.  All stats appear to be current at this time.  However, I tried to sync the Fitbit app 5x and it has failed to sync thus far (although usually it DOES sync eventually).  I will update post on my next jog/run if the regression/sync issue with the stats repeats itself.  And thank you again for your attention.

Hi @Archie78. It's great to see you here again and I'm sorry for the delayed response.

Thanks for taking the time to try the steps posted above, as well for sharing more details about this situation. Let me answer each of your inquiries. First, I'm glad that the Fitbit app is showing yo as a Premium member and since the syncing issues persist, please try these other steps to reconnect your watch with the Fitbit app:

  1. Remove your Versa from the Bluetooth settings.
  2. Turn off any Bluetooth connection that you have around just for this process.
  3. Open the Fitbit app and tap on your profile picture.
  4. Tap on Set Up a Device and choose the Versa.
  5. You'll be asked to replace your watch. Please do so and follow the onscreen instructions.
  6. When prompted to pair via Bluetooth, tap on "Pair" or "Set Up".

In regards to your other inquiry, let me share that our team is aware that some of our members are seeing a red dot on the notifications icon without having unread messages. They're further investigating to identify a solution and at this moment my best suggestion is to keep the Fitbit app up-to-date.

About the EOV, may I know if you're able to see those details in the Fitbit app? Our team has received feedback about some members who were able to see the EOV graph one day and not the next and they're working hard to correct this issue as soon as possible.

Please keep me updated!
