Map won't show on App, works fine on website

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

There appears to be a bug in the ioS app that the map for an exercise just shows a spinning icon, like it can't load the details.

The GPS tracking and mapping works though since if I log in to fitbit.com I can see the route, the map, the splits etc all fine...

The app just shows nothing...

Looking at the forums this has been around for some time - why isn't it fixed?

Hello @matgra and a warm welcome.  Have you had a problem with every GPS connected exercise or just one?  I have had no problem with runs or walks.  It happened to me once recently using GPS on the interval training setting.  I got the spinning spokes of doom on my app, but not on my web dashboard.  The map is fine there.

I have not experienced this as an ongoing problem, nor have I gotten the feeling from reading posts that this is an ongoing, unresolved problem.

I hope other users with this problem will chime in.  This will bring attention to the problem.

I am also moving this thread to the iOS forum.  This is an app issue, not a device issue.  It will get better attention there.

yes, it is with every exercise that uses GPS.  Clearly the underlying functions of GPS tracking of the exercise work fine, the data uploaded to fitbit.com is great.  Yet the app just displays a spin-wheel.

@matgra   Thank you for posting the screen shots.  Mine is the same -- with the exception that it doesn't happen all the time.

I hope a moderator will chime in with some insight.  In the meantime:

  • What model iPhone do you use?
  • What OS is it running?
  • Do you have the current version of the app?

@matgra   I am going to flag this to get moderator attention.  I don't do a lot of GPS mapping because I do familiar routes.

Today, I did my interval training with GPS on the way out and a walk on the way back.  The interval training map will not load.  The walk map does.

iPhone 6s

iOS 12.3.1

Fitbit 2.95

My troubleshooting routine of delete the app > restart phone > reinstall the app did not help.

Welcome to the Forums @matgra. Hello @LZeeW.

@LZeeW Thanks for being around to help. @matgra Thank you for sharing all the details on your setup and the screenshots that you took.

I'd like to second the suggestion that @LZeeW shared about uninstalling the app and reinstalling the app. That will help so that everything is reloaded from the servers and that everything is installed correctly, in case something is not.

Keep us posted on how it goes or if there are any other questions on the matter.

Hey @LZeeW and @matgra.

Thanks for the clarification, I apologize.

I'd like to ask one more question about this:

  • When did you start noticing this yourself? Has it always been like that for you with the Interval Workout?

Having this information will be useful to better understand what could be going on in your particular cases. I'd like to share this with the rest of the team.

I look forward to your replies.

@LanuzaFitbit

For intervals, I can see it happening last two months - I don't have history older than that.

Flicking back, I can see that hike and bike both work...

So it must be an 'interval' problem....

Mine is showing inaccurate map data in the iOS app after I updated it this morning. The walks I took after the update have the wrong maps displayed on the exercise screen but correct when I click on the individual exercises. A7BFBF94-3FEC-4513-BEAC-37BD0979EA1B.png

@LanuzaFitbit   Just so things are clear, I don't do GPS tracking with all available activities.  They are routes that I do frequently.  Most of my Interval Training workouts have been on a bike or indoors.  The first time I ever did Interval trainer with GPS was on Jun 9.  I decided to try something new.  Bad map on app.  My Interval Training exercises with bad maps are Jun 9 and Jul 1.  Run, walk and bike work fine.
