Mileage no longer accurate

Mileage, compared to another app, as well as car odometer no longer accurate.  I am not sure if it's an iOS update, or the Fitbit app.  On my iPhone 6 Plus mileage, on my walks, agreed with another app & the odometer in my car.  Now on my iPhone 7 Plus (I don't remember if I checked it after upgrading or not) the distance is always longer than it was.  Example: my 5.5 mile walk is now registered as 6.0 miles.

A very warm welcome to the Community @SunsetRunner!

I'd like to take a closer look to the difference in mileage that you're mentioning. To do so, I'd like to ask you a few questions:

- Did you change any of the information on your account? Height or weight for example.

- Are you using the same tracker? If so, what tracker is it?

- Has the position where you carry the tracker around changed in any way?

Look forward to your reply so that I can help you make sense of this situation.

I have a Blaze.

I enter my weight daily in the application, but it hasn't changed by more
than a pound or two since the 15th.

The position I wear the tracker (on my non-dominant wrist) hasn't changed.

The issue started after I was already using my iPhone 7 Plus, between
December 15th and 20th. During that time I was using my treadmill. On the
15th my walk was recorded as 5.6 miles, when I resumed walking on the 20th
the same walk was recorded as 6.03 miles.

I'm not sure if this correlates to the last iOS update or not. Currently
running 10.2 ((14C92)

Thanks

Thank you very much for that reply @SunsetRunner!

It wouldn't really have anything to do with the app or iOS version.

Let's try to manually enter your Stride length on your account. It should improve the Blaze's accuracy. To calculate your stride length please do the following:

1. Go to some place where you're sure of the distance.
2. Count your steps as you walk across that distance, making sure you travel at least 20 steps.
3. Divide the total distance (in feet) taken by the number of steps to get your stride length (You can do the same process to get your running stride length).

To add it to your account, please do this:

1. Access to your Fitbit.com Dashboard through a computer.

2. Go into your settings.

3. Scroll down and look for the Stride Length section. See the picture below:stride.PNG

4. Click on it and then select the 'Set Your Own'.

5. Enter the stride length you got from the previous steps.

6. Scroll to the bottom and select the Submit button. Now you have to sync your Fitbit Blaze to your account.

Let me know how it goes after adjusting the stride length.

The app uses GPS on the phone to determine route, it doesn't use that to
determine distance?

Thanks

Hello there @SunsetRunner!

Indeed, the distance is calculated with the number of steps multiplied by your stride length. Adjusting the stride length should improve your Fitbit's overall accuracy.

Please let me know if you do change it and if you notice any improvements.

I would agree, except that the stride length was set to auto, had been all
along, even during the change. That hadn't been adjusted when the change
occurred.

Thanks

My issue is with a tracked exercise.  The mileage displayed on a device (during the tracked exercise)  has no relationship with the stride length, or the displayed mileage on the device (until the exercise is completed).

This was verified using two different devices (a Blaze and a Charge HR), over two days.  Once the exercise is ended, then the dashboard shows a combination of the device and the tracked exercise.

This changed between the dates that I provided earlier.  After, whatever, changed the tracked exercise mileage is no longer correct.  This does not appear to be related to a specific tracker, since the difference exists across two different trackers.

Hey @SunsetRunner! Thank you very much for that.

In this case, the best way to proceed would be to get in touch with our Support Team. They should be able to take a closer look into the discrepancy and I'm sure they will be happy to help you.

Please let me know how it goes!
