5.5 mile bike ride no steps
What! How can that be ?
If you cross train thers no way to get your steps in
1 mile should equal 1000 steps

Not sure I follow your logic. Fitbit's are designed to track steps, bike riding has no "steps".  Yes you are getting exercise and moving, but not physical steps so the Fitbit will not track accurately during this exercise. As for getting your steps in, I would just say walk around the house more to get steps on days you ride your bike.

Kinda hard walking around if you ride 20 miles as I will as soon as the weather gets better with elevation changes on my ride of around 3 to 4 thousand feet a ride not sure how that doesn't equal steps when I stand and pedal up hill if a elliptical counts steps not sure why there is not some equation to covert that to steps
Thanks for your smart answere
