Not able to join challenges

My fitbit app will not let me join challenges, but it's not like other problems I've seen on this forum. I pushed the button to join the challenge and thought it worked, and yet I cannot sync steps or see anyone else's steps and when I go to "options" it says it is awaiting my reply.

I am only in one other challenge, so I know it isn't the 5 challenge limit. Also, I got the notification saying time is almost up to join the challenge, which is when I realized that it hadn't worked, but at this point, before the time was up, it still wouldn't let me join. Finally, there are only 4 other people in the challenge from what I can tell, so it's not the 10 person limit either.

I don't want to sound angry, but this isn't the first time this has happened and I'm getting frustrated.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you!

Have you updated the Fitbit app recently? If so, it's possible the information is not updating correctly when you're trying to join a challenge. Please try to force-close the Fitbit app by double tapping the home button and swiping up the app. If this doesn't do the trick, log out from the app, restart your phone and log back in. After that, try to join a challenge again and if you're getting kicked out or if you're receiving an error message, please reply with a screenshot of your phone so I can check this further.
