Fitbit Update 5/22/2019:

Hey all,

Today we've released the latest Fitbit for iOS app version 2.94. In this new app version, we've temporarily disabled this notification "Open Fitbit to keep your data synchronized." We will continue to assess all the user feedback and work to improve this experience.

Please update the Fitbit app if you haven't yet. I'm now closing this thread from further comments. Thanks again for all your feedback!

Fitbit Update 5/13/2019:

Hi Everyone- Based on customer feedback, we are working on an update to the notification and hope to have further information to share soon. We appreciate your patience and thank you for your feedback.

Fitbit Update 4/18/2019:

I've merged a few threads together. Receiving the notification "Open Fitbit to keep your data synchronized" after closing out of the Fitbit app is expected behavior. The Fitbit app needs to run in the background in order to enable features like all-day sync and notifications. If you are double tapping the home button, or swiping up into multi-tasking, and then swiping to close the app, you should see this message.

I appreciate your feedback and have passed it on to the team. I hear that you are unhappy with this notification. Our team is aware, but may not be able to provide a fix in the immediate future.

We'll continue to monitor the situation, and keep our team informed of the impact to you and other customers. We understand that this isn't the resolution you're hoping for, but rest assured we're always working to improve our products. We're sorry for any trouble.

  • I tried. Thanks for the suggestion but it didn’t work.

It’s still doing it. Maybe whatever update your team has done. Can you please take it out, or reverse your “ your hold tight cleaning up” update that the Fitbit team has done. May be going this weekend to look into Garmin, or Apple Watch, if soon not fixed. Please I have been with Fitbit since 2013 and I started with the zip and worked my way up to the Ionic. Please don’t make me sell these.. FIX IT!

Call customer service and complain. I did. They need to hear from people.

Same here, it's poopy!

Why did it never do this before? It makes no sense! Turn it off!

Can we turn it off? I’ll just turn off ALL notifications if I have to. I understand once but constantly?

Best Answer
  • That is not acceptable. If it never did this before it should be an option to turn off. If we leave the app open all day the battery runs and we should not have to keep the app open just for this stupid notification. If we turn off all notifications that is not good also. This needs to be fixed on the Fitbit company update side. It started today and should be gone soon.

The annoying message to Open Fitbit to synchronize data has NEVER appeared before. I have been using this for five years now. The “resolution” as reported by the Fitbit associate is unacceptable. Please fix this

Best Answer

100% agree. This is unacceptable

Best Answer

I'm closing the app like I've always done - why is this message just showing up now?

Best Answer

Whoever decided this new message was needed clearly didn’t think it through. People

do not need to be told that the app running in the background isn’t actively syncing. We get how apps work. This update didn’t help anyone and just made Fitbit users turn off all the app’s notifications entirely.

  • KateFitbit-the idea that this is solved and functioning as designed is ludicrous. You have many unhappy Fitbit users as you can see from the many posts on this issue. Please take this back to your team for a true resolution. Thank you.

Why can’t they just reverse the update that came through right before all this started? It would help a lot of frustrated people!!

I get the message when I close the app regardless of whether or not all day sync is turned on.

I got notifications etc fine with the app closed in the past and would like to continue to use the app like I had before and NOT have to keep it open in the background.

Tonight I played soccer. Before the game I synced and noted my number of steps. I don’t want to keep syncing while I play - I want to sync after my game to see how many steps I got in. I also don’t want to sync all day and drain my phone battery.

This is not “required” to get notifications because getting them worked yesterday without this happening.

I'll also add that it would be less annoying if it were just the message and not the vibration.
It's the vibration that's the annoying part to me.

We understand but it was not happening until the update. Should be a user choice.

This is truly annoying and the dumbest idea. It either needs to be undone or and option to turn off. Was never there before and should never be there again.
