Fitbit Update 5/22/2019:

Hey all,

Today we've released the latest Fitbit for iOS app version 2.94. In this new app version, we've temporarily disabled this notification "Open Fitbit to keep your data synchronized." We will continue to assess all the user feedback and work to improve this experience.

Please update the Fitbit app if you haven't yet. I'm now closing this thread from further comments. Thanks again for all your feedback!

Fitbit Update 5/13/2019:

Hi Everyone- Based on customer feedback, we are working on an update to the notification and hope to have further information to share soon. We appreciate your patience and thank you for your feedback.

Fitbit Update 4/18/2019:

I've merged a few threads together. Receiving the notification "Open Fitbit to keep your data synchronized" after closing out of the Fitbit app is expected behavior. The Fitbit app needs to run in the background in order to enable features like all-day sync and notifications. If you are double tapping the home button, or swiping up into multi-tasking, and then swiping to close the app, you should see this message.

I appreciate your feedback and have passed it on to the team. I hear that you are unhappy with this notification. Our team is aware, but may not be able to provide a fix in the immediate future.

We'll continue to monitor the situation, and keep our team informed of the impact to you and other customers. We understand that this isn't the resolution you're hoping for, but rest assured we're always working to improve our products. We're sorry for any trouble.

The only notification I ever got on my phone from Fitbit, besides this one, was when my watch battery was getting low. I also get an email about it...so I really don’t know what notifications you guys are talking about..but my problem is fixed you can keep complaining..not my problem. 🤷🏼‍:female_sign:

Lucky you. By the amount of posts to this thread quite a few are being annoyed daily. But we are the ones that open & Sync and then close the app

Please fix this.  It’s been ongoing for more than 2 weeks and still happening!!!  There has to be a fix and Fitbit’s excuse of “it may take awhile” is just ridiculous. 🙄🙄🙄 Certainly makes me and my entire family who use Fitbit products want to stop using them  and we are avid trackers! Wonder if other trackers are this unresponsive? May have to check those out!

The comment “Our team is aware, but may not be able to provide a fix in the immediate future.” is just not good enough.

Uh ....same meaning!  Not very responsive when the problem has been obvious for over two weeks and still happening.

Because the notification won’t stop my new solution is to rarely open the app. Once in the morning to check sleep seems to be enough. I guess the upside of my inability to review my own data without annoyance is that I have more time to decide which brand I should buy to replace my Fitbit. I’ve only been using their trackers for over five years and loved them all but hey, apparently Fitbit is obsessed with me and wants to track me at ALL times ;). Fortunately those of us using this product for years know fully well that it worked great without running 24/7 but hey, someone has to provide the data for Fitbit to sell.

I've been using the app for two years and this irritating notification only started very recently. I turned off the "all day sync" with no luck. PLEASE add this as a fix for the next update!!!

Coecoe85,

Before you post something as turning off notifications why don’t you check and make sure. I have no notifications on whatsoever and I still get the pop up every time I close the a

Extremely disappointed reading your thread info that getting this removed isn’t a priority. Continually receiving this notification is beyond irritating and I’m a very patient person. Please update the app with a fix for this before we all decide other trackers may cause less angst when using it — hoping to see that fix happen soon

With all due respect, your team have already been informed and there is nothing to investigate. Your users are quite capable of deducing that no fix is forthcoming and that this is an ill-fated choice by Fitbit to pull a "Facebook" and sell user data.

And sure, send me the cease and desist email like before and delete my post and kick me off your board. I think your responses have said it all.

I for one have taken off my Fitbit for the first time in over 5 years and I will only wear my Apple watch now.

I got really excited when I saw an update for Fitbit this afternoon! Downloaded & installed it, synced my fitbit, closed the app- AND STILL GOT THE SAME ERROR?!??!?

Surely all must realize by now that Fitbit will NOT roll back this change. Regardless of the user outcry.

Here is the email that I just sent to Mr.Jeff Marshall, VP of Global Customer Support with a copy to Mr. James Park-CEO:

Dear Mr. Marshall,

Please reference the following thread on the Fitbit Community:

“Re: Open Fitbit To Keep Data Synchronized Notification (Fitbit Community Subscription Update)”

So many (including myself) have posted our displeasure with the latest Fitbit release where we continually receive a notification when closing the app that the Fitbit app needs to run in the background to collect data. You will find that many of your (for now!) loyal customers are growing increasingly impatient with this data code and the lack of response and resolve to this annoying issue. I know of no other application that sends me an annoying notification when closing the app.

Hopefully my email will serve as your first notice of this ever percolating and devolving customer satisfaction regarding this issue. The responses that we have been receiving from the moderators are not helping, they are careless and censoring.

Can you please inject your influence on this matter so that you may retain your customer base, myself included.

Thank you in advance for your attention in this matter.

Sincerely,

“MY NAME”
(Fitbit customer since 2014, owner of Flex, Charge, and Aria scale)

So this is a "feature" but with all day sync its suppose to sync in the background but in order to do that the app has to be open... which drains the battery from every device. So What is the point of all day sync, and i'm finding now with the charge 3 that the app has to be open for it to pull the weather information as well. This makes very little sense as a feature ... and the notification is super annoying...

I see an update was pushed out today 5/13.    No change to the problem notification.  This holds true to form for Fitbit, pay lip service and do nothing.   This is a couple lines of code.  Get it fixed.

I was really excited to see the update in my apps. Too bad you didn't actually fix the issue that customers have been complaining to you for almost a month about. I am getting very impatient with your lack of customer service and repeated "we're working on it" claims.

I strongly recommend that you do not make us wait an entire month for an appropriate update.

Hi,

since the update I keep getting that annoying notification too but have also noticed that it isn’t logging my data correctly. When I look at each individual day, everything is all there but my weekly report shows no data and when I check against my friends etc, my average is significantly lower so the daily data isn’t feeding through.
