Push notifications not appearing on the Fitbit app

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

I receive notification banners on my iPhone regarding achievements, steps etc. When I open the app, (via the envelope icon at the top right hand corner of the latest version), to access the notifications page to read them they have not been added. I noticed that the last entry was the 10th of June which by my reasoning means that the page has frozen.

I suspect a software issue and suggested to the ‘chat’ desk, (at the beginning of Sept), that this was the case but it seems that they have failed to pass it on, three updates later and there’s no change.

This is not an isolated case as I have spoken with others who have the identical fault.

Hi @Dekero. It's great to see you here in the Forums.

Thanks for sharing detailed information about your notifications not appearing on the Fitbit app, as well for your research. Let me share that this is an expected behavior and the change is based on the feedback received from our members. While these notifications won't appear on the Fitbit app, you'll receive push notifications on your phone. To choose what push notifications you'd like to receive, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Fitbit app and tap on your profile's icon.
  2. Then Notifications and toggle on the options that you'd like to receive.
  3. Make sure the push notifications are turned on in your phone settings for the Fitbit app.

I'm sorry if this causes you any inconvenience and our team will continue working on our products to enhance your experience with them. If you have any other question, feel free to let me know.

See you around.

LizzyFitbit,

All the notifications have been enabled, as I stated, the banner flashes up on the iPhone so I’m receiving the notification but I can’t read it because as soon as I open the phone the notification has gone because it can’t be recorded in the ‘Notifications’ page within the app itself.

I sent a screenshot of the app’s ‘Notifications’ page to one of your colleagues during a lengthy ’chat’ which clearly shows that the new notifications have not been recorded since the10th of June, there are no options on the page for me to clear the 31 notifications that have been recorded.

Therefore I am of the opinion that there is a software problem because it appears that there is no functionality on the page, if there is no interaction with the old messages then how can you expect the new ones to be recorded? therein lies the bug.

May I also add that this is not an isolated case, there are four members in my family who have the exact same issue with differing last dates, I know that it goes further than this as I asked the question of the community and received responses in the positive. They have stated that because of the ongoing issue with the wider problem of the notifications it never occurred to them to check this page for updates.

Personally I think that Fitbit are missing the point in their lack of response to the general users of the various Fitbit products, you risk losing them to Apple and others who sell this particular range of products.

I hope that you will pass this on to your software team as it is obviously a bug in the app. And has nothing to do with the downloading of the iOS 13.

if someone form Fitbit requires a screenshot of the app’s notifications page, feel free to make contact through the email.

Regards

Hi @Dekero. I'm glad to see you here again.

Thanks for getting back and checking the information posted above. I understand your position about not having new notifications on the notifications tab from the Fitbit app, as well to be unable to delete the old ones. Please let me clarify that this situation isn't related to the iOS 13 notifications issues already reported and currently the old notifications in the Fitbit app aren't able to be deleted.

It's expected that the push notifications received on your phone when reaching your steps or achieving your exercise goal will not be logged in the notifications tab in the Fitbit app. The ones that will be logged in that tab are the in-app notifications, such as: friend's request, cheers and taunts from your friends, and Feed notifications. I understand that this was an important feature for you and our team will receive your feedback which will helps us to work on our products and enhance your experience with them.

I'll be around if you need anything else.

So let me get this right, there is a ‘community’ tab within the app which contains information from the ‘Feed’, ‘Friends’ or “Group’, if you send a “Cheers” or “Taunt’ from this tab should it not be stored and read from somewhere within the community? The point being it is a community where the recognition and banter is shared, (or not), by all within the group, the messaging can be done on a 1:1 basis as per the latest update.

I don’t see the point of sending the cheers / taunts to the Notifications page, (and emails), if a simple indicator on the community tab would suffice.

Regarding the Fitbit notifications, ‘Exercise’ target achieved, “Step’ target achieved etc, that used to be seen and read in the notifications page, if you take other apps, e.g. finance, games, et al, when you receive a notification from them it appears as a banner on the phone then it’s just a case of touching the banner which takes you directly to the notification within that particular app

What we have from Fitbit is a banner on the phone telling you of a notification that disappears into god knows where, leaving you with absolutely no idea as to the content.

Wonder who thought of that clever update.

If there has been major changes to the app then it becomes the responsibility of Fitbit to ensure that those who have bought and paid for what can be expensive pieces of kit are kept informed.

Will these posts be forwarded on to someone who has the authority to action the necessary changes?

regards

Hi @Dekero. Thanks for getting back and I'm sorry for the delayed response.

Let me answer each of your questions. About the Feed, this is a place where you can meet new friends, join groups, create groups and post your achievements with a group or with all your Fitbit friends. If you comment or post there, that will appear in the notifications tab in the Fitbit app as they're in-app notification. Now, the cheers and taunts received from a friend (not from Feed) will also appear there. Please note that there are two ways to send cheer or taunts to someone:

  1. On the Fitbit app, tap on your profile's picture > name > friends and tap on the friend you'll send that alert.
  2. On the Fitbit app, tap on Community > Friends and choose a friend to send that alert.

In regards to your second question, currently you'll only receive push notifications meaning that you'll see the message of your achievement on your phone, however the Fitbit app won't show that notification since it's not an in-app alert. I understand how you're feeling about this change. Our team takes every feedback seriously and we'll continue working on the app and features to enhance their performance.

I'll be around if you have another question.

Evening LizzyFitbit,

I have just downloaded the latest version of the app, I received a Fitbit ‘Notification’ indicating that I had “Notifications”, indicating that there was more than one to be read.

Now here’s the problem or bug if you like, when I open my phone the “notifications”, (as I’ve stated before), were nowhere to be found.

I now suspect that when the app has been opened, not necessarily showing on the screen, the notification can’t be read, whereas if the app has been closed completely, i.e. swiped away, it doesn’t delete the new notification, enabling it to be read.

If there are going to be notifications sent by Fitbit on achievements etc then it stands to reason that we should be able to read them, don’t you think?

I and others would appreciated it if you could pass this on to the bright spark would thought that a notification, Fitbit or otherwise, shouldn’t be logged in the app‘s notifications page. After all if Fitbit is calling it a ‘Notification’ then anyone with an inkling of common sense would realise that it should be logged in the app’s page that has ‘Notifications and Messages’ as the heading, is that not what it’s there for?

Regards

Hi @Dekero. It's good to see you again and I'm sorry for the delay.

Thanks for detailing what's happening with the Fitbit app after receiving a notification. Let me share that the push notifications that let you know about your achievements, such as "Overachiever!", "Almost there!" or "Nailed it!" where intended to be seen just in the notification center of your phone so you can be aware of your accomplishment for the day, however they'll not save in the Fitbit app. Instead, the "Notifications" section in the Fitbit app will save other type of alerts, such as a friend request, cheer or taunts from your friends or any other comment/kudos from the Community Feed.

I understand where your feedback is coming from as it'll be great to have those achievements notifications saved in the Fitbit app to read them later, and be sure that your comments will be passed along to our team. In fact, I found a similar request that was posted in the Feature Suggestions board. Please take a look to that and add your vote to show your support. The more votes an idea receives, the better chance it has of getting the attention of the developers.

Hope to continue seeing you around.
