Suspicions website claiming being Fitbit

Seeking tech support from Fitbit,  I looked online for the Fitbit support phone number.  The website I found was "call-fitbit.com" and it looked like the Fitbit website, but it was a total scam.  They had me download an app (something like "Razer desktop") and walked me through some initial legitimate-sounding steps.  Then he asked me to scroll through my apps on my phone very slowly and then to go to my Amazon account.  When I said it sounded strange he hung up.  Only use fitbit.com for help!

I just needed to share. I believe my 80 year old father contacted the same scam number around the same date as the OP. He was scammed into sharing his phone screen and eventually coaxed into showing his personal info and logging into his bank account and sending Support money through Zelle to an email address to fix his watch. I walked in on the act and put a stop to it, but it was too late. He had already sent the money and all info/passeords/security was keylogged, seen and infiltrated by the disgusting scammer. We had to clean and purge all bank accounts, emails, phone numbers, etc, you name it. Stop all bills with autopay anf the like. I've been running around to banks, phone companies and everywhere... trying to fix this. We sent scam reports in to the banks, Zelle and the FBI internet fraud dept. We shut off the watch (which was connected to his now old phone) and will be purging that too. Preying on ppl, especially elderly like that is pathetic. I cannot begin to explain to uou the devastation this had caused. Never thought it could happen to us, but it did.

Hi @Terrysteps  glad you hung up! So many others would have followed through to the sad conclusion. What's worse is people looking for a deal on the price of a new device getting taken by another scam.

here are the support contacts I've gleaned over the years on the forums.

when there is someone available, chat is an option. Phone or X/Twitter works well, too.

Hi @Terrysteps - please note if you downloaded rogue software (spyware) it can then be used to track you and your logins. Firstly remove the software and get professional help verifying your device is safe again.

This can be a scary situation not knowing what the software did or does even after removed.

It was good to report it and hopefully Fitbit will follow up the scam to get it dealt with.

Hi @SunsetRunner thanks for sharing that sad story with the community. I can't even imagine just how bad you and your father felt when this happened. This time of year the scammers are out there and they have no remorse taking advantage of anyone who will follow their instructions. These people know exactly what to do and how far they can go in order to get the money or information. Your father is like many of us who trust too much. It's a shame that we have to be on guard more than ever these days. This nightmare must be horrible for you both. Glad you were able to begin the lengthy process of shutting doors tightly to protect everything.

Thanks so much...we are picking up the pieces but had to restart everything. New bank, bills, new phone and phone number and all new emails, carefully redoing apps with all new usernames, passwords, calling social security, zelle, fbi internet crimes and local police dept. We will catch this guy/scam center. Messed with the wrong NYC police family member... I pray this never happens to anyone else.

@SunsetRunnerhope your father isn't giving up on tracking his steps and activity. Good you're not backing down and pushing forward to get these scammers. It doesn't matter how old a person is or how educated as these people know how to take advantage of the unsuspecting. I have a family member who was teaching a computer safety class in a high school and without a thought clicked on a link that immediately locked up his computer. Ransomware was pretty bad at that point. Wonder if that class ever heard of that experience from their teacher! Take care of yourself and your father. If you're able, please let us know how the hunt progresses. It might show others who read the forums that fighting can make a difference.
