Tracked Hikes not syncing

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.
iOS 9.3.2. FitBit app 2.22.1 (495)
App refuses to sync mapped hikes/walks to deliver mile splits, calorie outputs, etc for over a week now. Tracks fine, generates map, refuses to sync to servers.
Tried app restart & phone restart both failed to fix issue. Tried using cellular data & wifi, combined and each separate w/ no result.
Yes, I know I can manually enter the hike. That is not a bug fix...it's a work around.

I've been on two hikes using the app for tracking via GPS.  Both times the app crashed and the data was lost.  Very frustrated with app on this mark.  The data is important to me as I'm trying to improve my excersie routines.

I'm having the exact same problem! It's no joke. Fitbit is not giving me any incentive anymore 😡
I climbed Snowdon yesterday, and 6 Wainwrights up the Lake District last week, along with a few other 'hard graft' hikes & not one will sync 😡😡

Same here! Got so many hikes that haven't ever synced, strange that walks sync but hikes don't 😳

Just had this same problem after tracking a long hike yesterday that was out of cell range for quite a while after the hike was done.  Last time I tracked a hike was back around the end of April and it worked fine back then.  Walks have worked as recently as last week.  I spent about 15 minutes on a support chat though and they've supposedly forwarded the issue on to the engineers so hopefully it's fixed soon.  I'm guessing tracking hikes as walks wouldn't be accurate for calorie burn/etc?  I always wearing my Charge HR while tracking I just manually track to get the GPS track etc.

I have the same problem from a hike I did on Saturday. I separated it into two chunks because we stopped for lunch. The first one (3ish miles) synced but not the second, longer one (6+ miles). On the other hand, the tracker automatically picked up on the fact that I was walking and recorded two "walks" during the second part of my hike. Of course, they didn't track my location and had a gap in the middle while I was still hiking so using those "walks" instead of my recorded hike isn't very useful. Anyone get their hikes to sync since your recent posts?

@annatekla This is a known issue that our team is working to resolve. Click here for more information.

Please do not uninstall/reinstall the Fitbit App. There is the potential of losing unsynced data any time you uninstall the Fitbit App.

Also, if possible, I'd also recommend logging activities on Fitbit.com when possible.

I still have issues with long and short hikes. It will acknowledge the hike but the activity stats will not load/sync.

I have had this problem also. One thing i noticed was that I started a hike at 11:13am and my Fitbit logged a 'workout' in the middle of the hike , and synced it, at 12.09 for 56 min. while we were climbing a steep leg of the hike. My heart rate was high.  We finished our hike 2 and a half hours after we started.  Is it normal to log a second event while the first is still in session? Could this be part of the problem in syncing the hike.

Please can you advise on the progress of the known problem. I see Fitbit acknowledged the problem on 23 May, now 6 weeks. Please can you also advise that when the fix is applied it will also fix the routes that have already been completed and won't currently sync. I look forward to a fix adapt.

@WalkerDawn not sure if they officially fixed it, but I did notice finally the other day with the latest updates that my non-synced hike from early June had finally synced, updated stats, etc.

Thanks for your comment. I've just checked mine and they definitely haven't. I actually "logged out" off my phone and now all the routes that hadn't synced have all gone - so, so much for that attempt. I notice that walks that are under 1 mile are working correctly, but I did a 9 miler yesterday and still not syncing.

Please Fitbit Moderator - can you provide an update on the status of this problem we are having.

Having this issue with walks and hikes - it won't sync anything from "impact on your day" and under exercise it actually lists in red that it is (not synced). I've had some luck syncing a couple but 95% of the time it's just pointless to keep trying. None of them are registering as days of exercise either.

The problem is that if I try and manually log the walks/hikes based on distance, time and pace I get the wrong numbers! I tried it just a couple days ago and it added an extra 3000+ steps to my total count which was clearly inaccruate.

As Fitbit clearly are not fixing the problem (it's been around since March), nor communicating with their customers, I have decided that a cheap pedometer to track my steps and an online app called MapMyWalk (which works perfectly) is a far better option than a Fitbit. If you are only wanting to track steps and keep a log of walks, then I wouldn't recommend spending so much money on buying a Fitbit.

Although WalkerDawn's frustration is warranted I'm not sure I'm ready to get rid of the Fitbit just yet. I does more than track steps. However, it does concern me that this has been going on for so long and that the responses or lack thereof by Fitbit are disappointing to say the least I still think this is a fixable issue. If the GPS can track the split pace as you are going with the cue calls, it should be able to display, sync, and report the same data at the end of the excercise. I'm not giving up hope just yet. Just an update from my personal experience, it's not just long hikes but sadly long runs too.

I'll just add that I went on a hike to Mt. Rainier yesterday using the app and GPS tracker. No luck with syncing. I tried turning my phone off/on. And I tried keeping my phone from going to sleep while syncing for around 30 minutes. These are both suggestions I saw while searching the forums.

I ended up manually logging the activity. Patiently waiting for a fix....

FYI - Updating the app to 2.25 will also delete any of your unsynced data. It's been over two months without a fix for the syncing issue and then updating the app (hoping it would provide a fix since it was described in the release notes) deletes all my unsynced data....unacceptable.

Same problem. My 2.5 mile hiked synced but the 5 and 7mile did not. Maybe it is the amount of data?

Hi everybody,

This is a known issue that our team is working on fixing.

Please do not uninstall/reinstall the Fitbit App, uninstalling/reinstalling the Fitbit App could cause data loss for anything that hasn't synced over.

Updates about this issue will be posted in this duplicate thread.

How is this issue going?! Just did a hike on Saturday...and it did not sync, just like my 17 hikes before that have yet to sync. And like another poster mentioned, it was recorded that I did a workout in the middle of my hike. This issue has gone on for WAY too long now. Do not tell me to manually log my hikes either. That is not a solution. If I wanted to manually enter my workouts, i wouldn't have the Fitbit!
