Unable to change distance on Versa-recorded activity.

I completed a walk today that registered as 4 km. I’ve been walking this route for 10 years and know it to be 4.8 km, so I went to change the value to 4.8.... it allows me to do it, but it immediately reverts to 4.01 again. Breakdown of kms also doesn’t appear to correlate. Versa.

Hello @JoniBoxer, thanks for joining the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you on board. Smiley Happy

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. Tell me, did you recorded the walk on your Versa using the Exercise app? Or, did your Versa detected automatically? Please note that Fitbit devices calculate distance by multiplying your walking steps by your walking stride length and multiplying your running steps by your running stride length. We estimate your stride lengths using your height and gender. If you're using the Versa to track one or more runs/walks using on-board or connected GPS, we evaluate that data to automatically update your running stride length. For best results, run at a comfortable pace for at least 10 minutes.

Note that when you're tracking an activity with GPS, Fitbit calculates your distance using GPS data rather than steps. If you begin moving before you get a GPS signal, the tracker will calculate distance using steps and stride length as described above until a GPS signal is found. Once the walk has finished recording using connected GPS it's not possible to edit its distance, which also means it's not possible to edit the mileage.

I hope this resolves your inquiry, if there's anything else I can do for you, please feel free to reply.

Hi
The activity was recorded on my versa as an activity, (not auto detected) without gps input. I understand I can improve the accuracy using gps, but I can’t understand why the option is there to change distance, but it won’t update to the new value. Irrespective of that, the split values only add to 3kms, and the recorded distance is 4km. There appears to be a glitch with this function?

Hello @JoniBoxer, I hope you're doing well, thanks for taking the time to reply Smiley Happy

Thanks for your participation in the forums. Please keep in mind that Fitbit devices calculate distance by multiplying your walking steps by your walking stride length and multiplying your running steps by your running stride length. If your distance measurement seems inaccurate, follow the steps below to calculate your stride length and then add it to your Fitbit account.

To measure your Stride Length.

  1. Go to a track or some place where you're sure of the distance.
  2. Count your steps as you walk across that distance, making sure you travel at least 20 steps.
  3. Divide the total distance (in feet) taken by the number of steps to get your stride length.

Your running stride can be calculated the same way if you run instead of walk.

Now, in order to adjust your Stride Length in the Fitbit app:

  1. From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap or click the Account icon.
  2. Tap or click Advanced Settings.
  3. Tap or click Stride Length.
  4. Adjust your stride length.

I hope this can be helpful, if there's anything else I can do for you, please feel free to reply.
