Unable to switch Fitbit to Google - required for adding kids account

Hi all.
Our daughter received a Fitbit and I’d like to setup an account for her. She has a Google account (kids account) and the App says she requires a parent to add her to a family. So far that all makes sense.

However, that requires my personal Fitbit account to switch to a Google account and that can only be done through the app. Unfortunately I do not have the option to do this. I’ve searched, reinstalled, logged out multiple times but just nothing. Found screenshots of how it should look but it’s just not there.
Unless this is resolved her device is unusable or it requires a new Google account specifically for this..

@RaloAttis   Can you please add a little more information?

  • You wrote that your daughter has a Google kids account.  Does that mean she is under 13?
  • What model Fitbit are you trying to set up for her?
  • If you daughter is under 13, then the only model she can use is the Ace 3.
  • Every other model requires the user to be 13 and older as the user needs an adult Google account, not a kid's account.

Thank you for your reply. She is indeed under 13 (12..) and received a charge 5 for her birthday. We were unaware of these restrictions. I will then create another Google account just for this purpose that I will manage for her. Then I also don’t need to switch my Fitbit account to Google, still weird that the option is unavailable in the app though. I will first look into the reason why a charge 5 is not suitable for kids though.

Thanks again!

@RaloAttis   Thank you for the additional information.  All Fitbits except the Ace have a web based account.  You daughter needs a Google kids account for the same reason she can't have "full" Google account or a Facebook account.  Child internet privacy protection.  A user must be 13 and older to set up and use a Charge 5.
