Unable to turn off Music Control

I noticed the Fitbit app was showing the music I was playing and allowed me to manage the music. When I set up the app, I turned that feature off. I tried to turn off that off again and found I could not disable that feature. Weird, right?

After reading today that Google purchased Fitbit, I decided to do some checking. I found that the Fitbit app now ignores the privacy settings on my phone. The app tracks my location regardless of the setting - Never, Ask Next Time (the app does not ask when this is set), or While Using the App. What this looks like is a brazen privacy violation and suggests that Fitbit has already sold out its users to Google. Maybe I am wrong and if there is a reasonable explanation, I would be happy to hear it.

Hi @SunsetRunner. Welcome to the Community Forums. I'm sorry for the delayed response.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, as well for your research. I'll help you with each of your inquiries. About the control music setting, this will appear when starting a MobileRun activity and you can turn it off directly on the Fitbit app after tapping on the Exercise tile > Timer icon > Music Control and turn it off. If you continue having issues with this setting, try force quitting the Fitbit app, reboot your phone and turning off the Music Control one more time.

About your other inquiry, the Fitbit app will require to set the location settings to "Always" whenever you're going to track GPS activity, either using MobileRun or with connected GPS (for certain Fitbit devices). However, if you set the location settings to any other option, your location won't be tracked. That said, if you have GPS data recorded while having the location set to Never, please reply back to this post with your phone's model and OS version so I can further investigate.

I'll be around, keep me posted.

Hi Lizzyfitbit,

I do appreciate you taking the time to reply. I made the decision to return my Fitbit. There is a constant encroachment on privacy and although I mostly deal with that as part of the connected universe, Google and its bulk harvesting of personal information - I just refuse to offer up my personal health information to them.

Again, thank you for taking the time to reply!

Steve
