Versa won't receive text notifications

Replies are disabled for this topic. Start a new one or visit our Help Center.

My Fitbit Versa will no longer show my text messages and will occasionally vibrate when I receive a call. I have an iPhone XR and it says it is synced yet still nothing. I have uninstalled the app and reinstalled but nothing.

Hello @shelbykbit, have a warm welcome to the Fitbit Community, it's great to have you on board. Smiley Happy

I appreciate your participation in the Forums and for sharing your experience with us. I would also like to thank you for letting us know the troubleshooting steps you've tried in hopes to resolve this issue. Please note that Notifications might skip or stop occasionally for several reasons that don't suggest a problem with your device or the Fitbit app, which is why I would like to ask you to check the following:

  • Your phone was too far away. It must be within 30 feet of your Fitbit device to transmit the notification.
For texts, you have the conversation open on your phone. Your Fitbit device shows new texts you haven't already read.
You changed a related setting on your phone, such as turning on Do Not Disturb, Quiet hours, or Driving mode. To double check all requirements, see How do I get notifications from my phone on my Fitbit device?
  • You're using another Bluetooth product. If you have Bluetooth products like speakers, headsets, or car stereos paired to your phone along with your Fitbit device, you may have trouble using more than one at the same time. For example, turning on your speaker might stop your phone from sending a notification or syncing. For more information, see Is the Fitbit app interfering with other Bluetooth devices?
  • The connection between your phone and Fitbit device is unstable. Bluetooth signals are susceptible to disconnecting or dropping occasionally.
  • The app that should send the notification can't do so. Check all the phone and Fitbit app requirements in How do I get notifications from my phone on my Fitbit device?
  • Your device was syncing. Syncing can sometimes prevent or delay a notification.
  • You just updated the Fitbit app. Restart your phone and try setting up notifications again.
  • Device lock is active on your Fitbit watch and you haven't recently entered your PIN. Tap your watch screen to see if the device lock prompt appears. If it does, enter your PIN.

If you've reviewed the list above and can't get notifications to work, please try the following:

  1. Force-quit the Fitbit app, then open it again and sync your tracker.
  2. Restart the Bluetooth on your phone once again.
  3. Reset your Versa once again.
  4. Refresh Notifications:
    • From the Fitbit app dashboard, tap the Account icon
    • Tap Notifications.
    • Turn off all notifications
    • Restart your phone.
    • Open the Fitbit app and turn notifications back on.
  5. Set up Notifications again:
    • Tell your phone to "forget" your device, removing the connection between the phone and the Fitbit device.
      1. On your phone, go to Settings > Bluetooth and find your Fitbit device in the list.
      2. Find an option to forget the device.
    • Open the Fitbit app and set up notifications again.

I hope this can be helpful, please give these steps a try and keep me posted in case you need anything else.

I tried all the above solutions and none of them worked. My phone and watch are still not syncing properly.

I’ve tried all the suggestions. Multiple times. Turning Bluetooth off and on. Shutting down my Versa. Restarting my phone. I deleted and reinstalled the app. I get all other notifications to my Versa including when a phone call has connected or when I get a FB message. But I am still not receiving texts or phone call notifications to my Fitbit and it’s been two weeks.

Found something that might help iPhone users! If you go into the Notification settings on your phone you unfortunately have to allow your text messages to Show Previews: Always (Default). HOWEVER, if you turn off the Lock Screen Banner, it won’t show the texts message on your locked screen so that eliminates people seeing your messages but still gives you the alert on your watch and if you unlock your phone the text will be there. Hopefully that helps for now.

I have tried EVERYTHING!! For a few weeks now! I am ready to throw the Fitbit out the window and crush it!!! 😢

You and me both! This is so aggravating. I loved getting my text msgs. And now since the latest Iphone update the watch doesn't cooperate correctly. I am so tired of fitbit!!

I have tried EVERYTHING myself - quite frustrating.....   On my last attempt to NOT throw the watch out the window, I decided to delete the app and download it again...  Not sure what the difference is, but I am now able to receive text messages again!  I hope nothing else broke by doing this!!!

I’m sorry I replied to the wrong message. What I did that worked was turn on Show Previews “Always” and that worked. Then I turned off my messages showing on a locked screen so no one can read my messages.

Hi all,

My phone: iPhone XR (works on iPhone 11)

My fitbit: Versa 2

So after reading some posts, I tried the following that showed messages/text and no preview when phone is locked.

Like others mentioned -

Settings => Notifications => Messages => Show Previews => Always

 then:

Setting => Notifications => Show Previews => When Unlocked

Synced the fitbit in app one more time

I made these changes after checking all other actions were followed as mentioned in previous posts:

- Under the Bluetooth settings and after the"i" button is clicked by Versa 2, Share System Notifications is on

- All notifications are on in the fitbit app under Versa 2 settings

- Notifications are shared with Versa 2. Confirmation should pop-up when connecting the Versa 2 to the phone. (I ‘forgot the device‘ under Bluetooth settings and re-paired the Versa 2)

Hopefully that works for others!

Chris

So just set up my Versa2. I get text messages but only after I switch messages to off in notifications.

Last attempt before contacting Support and I am finally getting texts. The call notification and weather notification worked from the start.

I did all that you listed with no luck. Decided to delete the app again and then went back to my iPhone XR settings and turned on banners to all but the lock screen and it finally worked.

Good Luck everyone! Hopefully iPhone and Fitbit will like each other eventually. I would love to have access to quick replies but for now I am glad to see the texts!

I have done everything as well. Is this issue covered under the warranty? Because the message receiving is a huge reason I got a smart watch and if it’s not goi to work I would like to replace or return it

My iPhone stopped receiving text messages over a month ago. I tried everything mentioned and nothing worked.   THEN after going to Setting—Notifications —Messages  and turning on Show Previews, I started receiving my text messages again. I don’t like having my text previews showing up on my iPhone, but it is the only way to get text messages on my Fitbit. Hope this works for you.

Sarah, you are a genius!!!!!! You solved the problem that has been laughably overlooked by the Fitbit support team. After MONTHS of them shrugging their shoulders, your solution has fixed this joke of an issue. Fitbit should be ashamed that they have not read this forum beyond their initial joke of troubleshooting. They just chalk it up to “comparability issues” and get you to do everything from Bluetooth on/off to dancing on the roof naked hoping to get those coveted text messages. Bravo to you Sarah!!!!
