It's my first time. Do I always have my phone with me every step I take? I don't have fit bit watch. But this will do for now. Thanks!

@FitMoni When you use your phone to track your activity, you are using a feature called Mobile Track. According to the list of Supported Devices, the iPhone 5s will support Mobile Track, but the iPhone 5 does not.
Do you have an iPhone 5 or a 5s? Did the app let you set up your phone as a Mobile Track device?
And the answer to your question is YES, you must have your phone with you for your steps to count. The steps are counted by the sensors in your iPhone.
