trust: background app refresh not honored

The Fitbit app continues to contact various servers every fifteen minutes or more even when background app refresh is disabled. My pi-hole DNS counted almost 500 hits in twelve hours going to multiple servers. Shutting down the app is the only way to keep this from happening.

I have resisted getting an Apple Watch because of the sleep tracking. But now that Google owns Fitbit, it becomes an issue of trust and I'm not sure I like all the tracking you are doing of me.

These are the fitbit servers:

  • fsc.fitbit.com
  • iphone-cdn-client.fitbit.com.cdn.cloudflare.net
  • iphone-cdn-client.fitbit.com
  • corporate-webapps.fitbit.com.cdn.cloudflare.net

  • digital-assets.fitbit.com
  • www.fitbit.com
  • static0.fitbit.com.cdn.cloudflare.net

And of course, all the creepy trackers which I block already:

  • firebaseinstallations.googleapis.com
  • app-measurement.com
  • play.googleapis.com
  • logx.optimizely.com
  • cdn.optimizely.com

BTW @christopherjost Google does not own Fitbit.

You bought a tracker that you knew connects to your online account.
