why does fitbit need to track my location?

Why does fitbit need location services to be set to “always” in order to track my exercise?  I have it set to “while using app” and it tells me whenever I ask it it to track me while I exercise that it cant unless I change my setting to allow it to always track me.

@KateFitbit  this is a good question!  why does fitbit want to track us 24/7?

The only thing that comes to my mind is that maybe google wants it, but i'd just be guessing.  If you look at the start of this thread https://community.fitbit.com/t5/iOS-App/App-keeps-asking-choice-for-location-services/td-p/3863744 the date is right around when the google fitbit merger was announced.

Although @LizzyFitbit was pretty active in that thread maybe she could provide some info.

I would think if i'm not using the app fitbit wouldn't need access to my location so I'm not understanding their logic
