Ace 2 Activity Tracking Falsely Elevating Step Count

How do I modify the step count after adding an activity?

My child went for a walk with me yesterday. When I manually added the activity it added 3k steps to her step count, but the problem is the steps were counted during the walk, as well.

I've read that automatic exercise tracking is a feature "under consideration." But what do we do in the meantime to keep the step counts accurate? Or, are we supposed to just be patient and hope that FitBit adds the feature and give up on activity tracking?

I'm not understanding you @Rebekah1021

Wasn't your child's steps counted by their tracker?

What is the need to manually add an event? X

The tracker isn’t counting the activity. You can add an activity manually (eg, walking 30 minutes) but it calculates and adds the steps to the daily total. This falsely elevates the daily total steps. For example, before the walk she had 5k steps, afterward she had 8k. But, the dashboard says 0 activities for the week. When I add walking 30min to the activities manually, she then had 11k steps.

Your manualy adding the walk through the Fitbit app on the unknown phone. Does the walk then show up for the time period you chose to add the event.

Yes, it shows up in the activity tracker, with contributing 3k steps to the day. There’s no way to remove the step contribution but keep the activity log. I use an iPhone.
I just want the activity log to say 1 of 5, or 3 of 5 etc. without contributing steps that have already been counted by the tracker.

If the added event shows for the correct time, then Fitbit will ignore any steps that the Ace has recorded.

If on the other hand, the manualy recorded event got logged being done at a later time, your steps will be doubled.

Users tell us that this future time has been fixed with the latest update. At least fixed on one of the platforms.

Events may also be added through the web browser.

Were you able to fix this?  I just had the same problem adding an hour long walk to both of my kids' activities yesterday. I ended up logging it as yoga. 😕

No, unfortunately not. Was getting tired of the circuitous discussion above so stopped replying. Hopefully, FitBit will address the functionality at some point.
I think I might use your idea of putting it as yoga next time! Thanks for sharing.

Hello again, I did go back in and adjust the time to the exact time we were
walking (as was suggested by the other guy). Now, it did still add steps,
but not nearly as many. It also adjusted my kids' activities minutes by
reducing them, which didn't make any sense to me, like it disregarded all
of the other times it had detected activity. I'm pretty bummed that these
aren't working that well. I wish it made sense to get a better tracker,
which includes heart rate, but my kids really want and need something kid
friendly.
