My understanding is that the Ace is basically an Alta but reconfigured for use by kids. The Alta's display can either be in landscape or portrait mode. In portrait mode there is not enough room to display the full step count so it has to round it. By changing the display to landscape there is more room and the full count is shown.
I assume this is the same on the Ace and that the choice can be made in the device settings.
