Alta HR display too dim

Hi, I have had my Fitbit Alta HR for almost 2 years now. I’ve definitely noticed the poor performance of the display in outdoor settings as mentioned on posts here previously. However, I experienced a different problem.

 

I was working outside this weekend, sweating but definitely no water contact, and now my display is so dim I can’t see anything. I thought it was dead but it does respond to charging and when I really look close I can see digits. I have tried resetting like the previous posts mention. Other thoughts?
